'Designing Women' on Broadway?

I dunno. My mind is too scatter-brained to work on it right now, but I do like the idea a lot. They all worked so wonderfully together on the show...I'd love to see it LIVE but not in some trashy bar show..

Oh, that wily Helen Van Patterson-Patton is back up to her old tricks again.
Or is it Linda Bloodworth-Thomason?

Hey! How about giving a part to poor Jennifer Holliday? Everyone is yapping about how she deserves a job.
And Stephanie Mills could still pull off Dee.

Posted: 4/19/06 at 4:51pmWhat is wrong with this world? What happened to bringing original things to Broadway, a la the 1950's. No it's now all gone commercial and pretty soon we'll be seeing TV shows recreated for the stage...it's leaning towards that direction already. *sigh* Let's build Sondheim-land.

It opened to mixed reviews. The word-of-mouth was incredible, which brought in the crowds. It opened at the Cort Theatre and though it was a limited engagement it kept extending and extending.
What made DESIGNING WOMAN: ON BROADWAY! special (and what made the show) was that the actresses ad-libbed quite a bit so even though they followed a solid script, each performance was never the same. Also, as they did for Hugh Jackman during his run in THE BOY FROM OZ -- in order to not exhaust the actresses, every few weeks they trimmed performances, which enabled the show to have it's entire run without any of the actresses ever missing a performance.

If they had any guts, the play would be about trying to create a play out of an old sitcom created by a once powerful writer and her brood of tabloided to death original cast.
There's an idea that has some meat. Raw meat, but hey.
Take off Designing, and you have a new The Women.
