Posted: 2/9/14 at 12:39pmI wonder why. Creative differences? Clash of egos? Too much strain? It's a heavy-duty role, and Carroll is 79 years old.

Posted: 2/9/14 at 12:47pmCicely Tyson was 88 in Trip To Bountiful doing a heck of a lot more physical work than what Dihann would be doing. I'm sure it's not lack of stamina.

LaTanya Richardson Jackson is 64, and Denzel is 59.
Time for some serious makeup for both of them.

Posted: 2/9/14 at 1:00pmKelly Lynch and Bronson Pinchot are just a couple of people who have talked about Denzel being difficult/controlling when they worked with him.

"But, its Bronson Pinchot…"
Yes and clearly the man behind Balki and Craig "Scaring the little girl" Toomey is on a whole other level than a two-time Academy Award winning actor.

Posted: 2/9/14 at 1:31pmWell if Bronson Pinchot, an actor who's most recent IMDB credit is playing a character called The Beaver in "Kung Fu and Titties" said it, then I think that settles it. Updated On: 2/9/14 at 01:31 PM

The reason given on Playbill.com was due to vigerous rehearsal and performance schedules.

Back in 2004, Ms. Carroll withdrew from the Broadway revival of ON GOLDEN POND (replaced by Leslie Uggams). At the time, an issue with her back was given as the reason for departure, but I believe the inside word was the Carroll was having a tremendous time memorizing the text. I was frankly surprised when she was announced for this production, but perhaps she went into the project feeling that she was more confident only to discover she wasn't up to to the task.

Posted: 2/9/14 at 2:16pmA shame but it's all about (the very picky with her Broadway shows) Anika Noni Rose, cannot wait to see her. Wonder what happened though, especially since they are in rehearsals. Interesting comment, MichaelBennett, honestly, I'd rather it be that than health reasons.

Posted: 2/9/14 at 2:18pmWhat a shame. I hope it isn't health related. My interest in seeing the show has gone down, but there are some other very talented women still in this production.

i mentioned this in the other thread. This summer several gossip rags, TMZ and E! were reporting that she was suffering from dementia and had trouble on the set of Peeples-could not remember lines and would zone out. EVen Kerry Washington said Diahann was frail mentally during production.
Diahann is the only reason I'd see this show.

Posted: 2/9/14 at 3:18pmShe was the reason I was going to this, as well. I love Denzel but I can live without seeing him in this role.

You do realize that different people have different circumstances, right?
