When you only need 30 seconds you can make most anything look good. (I'm not saying it isn't, however.)
This, however, looks strictly like children's theater: For children, by children. Doesn't look/sound like something that would fare well on Broadway. (Of course, what the heck do I know?) Even my son...who loved the Wimpy books, had the reaction, "no, thanks'. Granted, he's 15.
Disney has always had appeal beyond the child market.

A show with children, about children and with children didn't stop the producers of 13! Although that show wasn't a financial success, this show would be more well known to the masses and could sell better. This does seem more of an off-Broadway show though.

Just because the title would be more well known, doesn't guarantee better ticket sales. LOTS of shows with known titles fail, w/o being all kids shows.

If the crazy-talented kids in School of Rock are any measure of the kind of kid talent out there, this could be a big success! I'd rather see this than Sponge Bob the musical.

Neither one does anything for me. If you got kids, it may have appeal..If not, I do not see it. To me further proof of the dumbing down of Broadway.

I could definitely see this on broadway. The only problem is the appeal to adults but it would do well with families I think.

My kids were grown before this series became popular, so I wasn't that familiar with it until the author, Jeff Kinney, opened a wonderful bookstore in Plainville, MA. Now, I'll root for his success in anything he tries to do.

Wimpy Kid is a huge series. This seems like something TheaterWorks would run with.
Family shows or shows aimed for young people are not "dumbing down" Broadway. Isn't it creating more options and making theater more inclusive, which can, in turn bring in whole new groups of viewers?

Theaterworks or something they'd house at New World. Bway prices are pretty high for exclusively young (middle schoolers and younger) kids' fare. It might be adorable -- but that doesn't mean it will fly on b'way.

With ticket prices running wild, it tends to be less inclusive. If a couple has 3 kids , add up the math plus whatever souvenirs are sold in theaters. Broadway is becoming less serious and more kiddie oriented with these titles. If they want to produce it fine but it is going to have limited drawing power. It is basically all about the money end of it and less with the artistic side of it.

Can't we just go back to more artistically fulfilling days on Broadway, when audiences were treated to such highbrow, complex shows that featured showgirls walking down a staircase?

Wouldn't be surprised, I work with this theater a lot and it is a very professional company (most of the shows are done by adults for kids) and the kid who plays rowley was in Matilda on Broadway (they flew him in from New York. This is also the theater company where Laura Osnes worked for many years before getting that big break.

Honestly, I think this would be a tough sell. If this was five years ago, I'd say maybe. But considering this series is no longer at its peak that it once was, and the fact that the last movie (which came out a full FOUR years ago already) didn't even do well enough to constitute another, I see flop. Now if TheatreWorks did this Off-Broadway, I could see it being a mild success there. Beoadway though, no.

the last movie did fine. They made 3 movies off the books. Even when they were promoting the movie they said it would be the last one because the actors were getting too old. The only thing is I don't think something which pretty much only appeals to kids can do well on Broadway. I definitely agree it would have done better like 5 years ago. I remember by brother was a huge fans of the books back then.
