Actually, just the opposite. The politics of the business is why a producer doesn't want it to be invoked. You don't want to be that person, because it is political suicide.
Exactly. That's what I'm saying (maybe I wasn't clear). But this was about as close to invoking the stop clause as a producer who wants a career will allow.
Many forget that theater is a business and theater owners want shows to have high grosses or another show is most likely waiting in the wings to take over.
The Shuberts promised Chita Rivera a theater this spring for her final appearance in the new musical ~ The Visit and the grosses for Disgraced have been weak since it opened so it was just a matter of time. Disgraced has 2 months left of performances go see this powerful drama.
Surely no one would be stupid enough not to close when asked. This is the same thing as being asked to resign or get fired, haha.

^ That picture is stunning. Beautiful set and lighting design.

Seems like such a huge show for a small theater. But Scottsboro Boys was there. I hope it's a hit for its investors.
So it's considered a new musical, yes? So Fun Home might have a run for its money.
I have a hard time seeing this being a hit... Chita Rivera's name may will some tickets, but I don't see it making this show a huge hit. The marketing for this is going to have to be done just right.
I believe this is being planned as a limited engagement.

Why "but" Scottsboro Boys? Scottsboro Boys didn't do well there, if you remember.
^But unlike The Visit, it wasn't even planned for a limited run.
