When the cast of a musical performs at the Tony Awards, are they in any way compensated for their time? A livestream brought up this question, and I didn't know a clear answer.
Any other year, it probably wouldn't matter whether they were paid or not, but since no cast member in any show has been compensated for their role since March, being paid for a song on the Tony Awards might be a little more important...

That's assuming there will be live performances this year. I could also see them just using B-roll, in which case I believe the cast wouldn't be entitled to any additional payment.

The performers are paid under SAG/AFTRA contracts.
I have not seen anything suggesting there would be live performances.

Depends what you mean by "broadcast" but now that there are nominations and voting there will be "something." Will it be more impressive than what they had James Monroe Iglehart do with the nominations? Stay tuned.

London's Olivier Awards were broadcast tonight over YouTube. The had soloists from the musicals perform on an empty stage. Sam Tutty sang "Waving Through a Window" without the chorus, etc. etc. A bit eerie but it's better than nothing.

I think maybe you're saying the same thing. "Double your weekly salary" means for that week they got two weekly paychecks; one for the broadcast and one for the 8 shows they performed. So yes, getting one week's salary on top of the salary they already get is correct, but it can be stated both ways.
This is, by the way, usually the amount they get to record the cast recording, too. One week's salary on top of the money they'll make that week for the 8 performances.
