I recently bought tickets for my third time at Great Comet for June 16th, which is the Friday after the Tonys. Earlier dates weren't an option, so regardless, I'm going the 16th. But then I realized it was so soon after the awards, and I wasn't sure if principal actors tended to take a well-deserved rest and possibly be out more than a few days. I feel greedy for asking, since this won't be my first time seeing it.
Thanks!
No, that isn't a trend.
Josh Groban has all of his days off listed on Telecharge, so the assumption is that unless that date is listed, he's scheduled to perform.
However, I have noticed there are times that actors who perform and also have to do the Tony Awards and other awards rounds (interviews, banquets, etc) tend to take that week or one soon after to recuperate because it can do a number on them.

Not Hugh Jackman! He rehearsed for and hosted the 2004 Tonys, performed for the Opening number... and for the basically solo production number for The Boy from Oz (which was a Best Musical nominee), and was back at the Imperial the first Tuesday after the Tonys.

I repeat: principal actors do not routinely take off the week after the Tonys. Many do schedule vacations weeks AFTER that time period -- but not the week of. We've definitely see individuals get sick and miss the performance right after, but this is also not the norm.
If you think so poorly on an actor's ethics and professionalism, why worry if they won't be there?
While the awards can be meaningful to everyone involved in a production, it sounds pathetic to think that, once those have been handed out, performers can feel more entitled or willing to dismiss their commitment to their contract and audiences.

Let me be clear- I do NOT think poorly of actors' professionalism and commitment at all; I'm a casual theatre-goer and my question was asked out of ignorance so I do apologize if it was offensive. I'm not aware of how contracts work and didnt know if they were "allowed" to take time right after the awards off because, contrary to thinking poorly of them, they work very hard.
In any case, I have my tickets and I'll expect to enjoy another terrific performance regardless who's there.
There have been several recent cases of actors falling ill in the period after the Tonys. Know why this is? Because Tony season is incredibly punishing. In addition to doing eight shows a week, performers are expected to show up for events, luncheons, promotional appearances, morning TV performances (often requiring a 4am wake up the night after performing a show), etc. It's not hard to see how immune systems can become compromised, or voices can get shot.
But no, actors usually don't just call out after the Tonys. Or if someone has a vacation scheduled for around that time (like Cynthia Erivo did last year), it's often announced weeks in advance.
