I read in Andy Blankenbuehler's bio that he is set to direct Toy Story the musical. Does anybody know if there is any weight to this?
Pocahontas the musical? That could work. Or probably High School Musical on Broadway.

Hunchback?
Please?
HSM will never come to Broadway.. Its touring and there are shows of it in the Disney theme parks.
I don't think it would be hunchback.
Disney is milking HSM like crazy.
^^^ Don't you have homework to finish?
lol nope. =]
Passion of the Christ?
I don't believe there has been any solid word regarding Toy Story and I think Disney should consider taking a break from producing a new musical. They have two successful shows (Mary Poppins & Lion King) currently on Broadway and on tour. And The Little Mermaid is set to tour sometime next season. I think Disney shows are almost better suited for National Tours in this economy because of the lower ticket prices.
I want POCAHONTAS!
Bring it. Just around that river bend, please!
They're developing Aladdin (a 40 minute version of which plays at Disney's California Adventure) as a full-length musical.
I love Aladdin! I'd love to see that!
There already exists a TOY STORY musical on one of the Disney cruise ships...

I did hear rumblings of Hunchback a year ago. Who knows. I'd LOVE for that to come in, but only if it retained its darker undertones from Germany.
As for HSM, is that really still touring? The first national closed some time ago. Is it going out for another season?

Toy Story the Musical made its debut aboard Disney Cruise Line's Disney Wonder in April 2008.
The musical features seven new songs penned by GrooveLily's Valerie Vigoda and Brendan Milburn with direction by Stefan Novinski and book by Mindi Dickstein (Little Women). The production features costumes by Ann Closs-Farley and sets by Sibyl Wickersheimer.

says Hunchback is coming. I also recall seeing something about Stephen Schwartz wanting it to come to Broadway.
I hope it happens. HoND is a Disney movie that just screams "take me to Broadway already!!". Anybody seen the clips of the Berlin version, Der Glockner von Notre Dame, on 'that site'? Even in German, it gives me chills.
Disney Theatrical needs to see the light. Tarzan before Hunchback? Really??
In my opinion, Hunchback is one of Alan Menken's best scores. 'Someday', 'Bells of Notre Dame', and 'Hellfire' are some of the greatest Disney songs ever. They give me the shivers every time.
(Also, Toy Story the Musical, as it exists on the Disney Cruise Line, will never be coming to Broadway. Not before getting a new score, at the very least. It's a cute enough cruise ship show, though.
Finding Nemo has a bit more of a chance (and is a better show), but I doubt we'll be finding Nemo on the Great White Way anytime soon.)

Toy Story would be interesting.
Edit: Blank Post ?
HollyGolightly2, that article is old. There have always been rumours about Hunchback coming to Broadway. I doubt it will ever happen. It isn't exactly the "happy" Broadway musical that Disney likes to push on families. I must agree that the Berlin cast recording is absolutely wonderful though. I love listening to it.
As for Tarzan, Disney should have gone with their gut and created the big theatre-in-the-round version that they had originally envisioned. I really don't know why they scaled things back and made it so horrid.
I know the article is nearly a year old, but it's really the only thing that 'confirms' it. Besides, musicals are always years in the making, so who knows?
And I know it's not the happy-go-lucky Broadway musical Disney likes, but the movie's not exactly a typical happy-go-lucky Disney movie, either. That's one of the reasons people like it. If Disney did decide to move Der Glockner though, they would have to revamp it a lot to make it palatable for American audiences. Something tells me America would not like Esmeralda's death, even though it's closer to the book.
Eh, either way, I watch the movie Tarzan, and I do not think 'Broadway'. I think 'jungle skate park'. I still don't know why Disney opted to put it on stage in the first place.

If they had ANY sense whatsoever they would get HUNCHBACK on Broadway. And fast. And get Glenn Slater to do the lyrics.
SISTER ACT is on fire. Menken is hot.
P
P.S. Re: TOY STORY - Randy Newman needs to get FAUST on Broadway already. The script is by David f*cking Mamet, for chrissakes. And based on Goethe. Get Sherie back and do a good rewrite and throw in "Real Emotional Girl". Hit.

Hunchback + Drew Sarich.
Disney did put High School Musical on in London, while it was still touring, for a limited time.
HSM is sill touring the UK, after a successful 2 years I think,
and High School Musical 2 starts touring the UK August 22nd I think.
