I love the artwork it is a lot mor intresting then most shows i think. When i was in London 2 weeks ago there was a couple of adverts. They also already have a hand brochure that they pass out at the New London theatre.
Well, "Les Miserables" was a huge freaking novel and they adapted it. Of course, the debate still rages over whether or not it was a worthy adaptation.
Put me in the camp of one of the best musicals ever written.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
Did anyone see the 80's movie Irreconcilable Differences with Shelly Long, Ryan O'Neill, and Drew Barrymore? The big gag was what destroyed the Director's career was a musical remake of GONE WITH THE WIND,a young Sharon Stone played Scarlett O'Hara.
And she sang, "This Civil War ain't gonna get me down. I'm taking my act to a brand new town. This belle rings in old Atlanta. I'm gonna find myself a brand new Santa!"
As I've said from the get-go, one shouldn't dismiss it out of hand--would anyone have thought that Les Mis would have made a good musical? And that's just as long, and twice as *dense*, as GWTW. They'll probably have to cut *less* from GWTW than they did from Les Mis.
It will all depend on the script and the score/lyrics. I mean, who would have thought several unrelated stories from James Michener's "Tales Of The South Pacific" would make a good musical? But not only did R & H compose an incredible score, they tied together these stories so well that you'd never believe they weren't at all related in the source material.
As one last comment, before dismissing it out of hand, I submit to you the following quote from Irving Thalberg to Louis B. Mayer:
"Forget it, Louis. No Civil War picture ever made a dime."
(I was going to use "Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr. Epstein" as an example, but the other quote ties in with the show.)
