my rooms broadway themed, with tons of posters, but i have on special corner devoted to POTO with my own chandeleir(sp?) the poster, and vainity.....ahhhh i love it.
The one that loves the most...is at the mercy of the one that loves the least.
I took my one of my favorite musicals (which happens to be The Wizard of Oz) and turned my room into "OZ" with flowers and lollypops, dolls and anything I could find! It looks like oz all I need now is a yellow brick road!
I've been an avid theatre goer and collector since 1975. I've devoted four complete rooms in my basement. My basement is completely finished, and paneled in white pine. The main room, where I house all the theatre CD's and theatrical library, is lined with appx 70 framed posters of the original casts. Perhaps 20 are autographed. The back door was 'confiscated' from the Minksoff when Sunset played there...its the wooden door with a life sized Alice Ripley as Betty Schafer, and I drilled two holes at her wrist to hold the Rocky Horror bag when she was in that. There are also framed pics of me backstage at shows such as Miss Saigon (with Leah and Jonathan), Falsettos, Indiscretians and Crazy for You as well as dozens of masks from Broadway and around the world. Off the main room is the Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber bathroom (I kid you not) with his memorabilia. The toilet seat, though not ALW...plays My Favorite Things (from the old Music Stand catelogue). The pantry has one full wall of shelving from floor to ceiling. Thousands of Playbills, mugs from every show, hundreds of scripts and thirteen leather volumes of Playbills. Two other full walls in my pantry are devoted to Chorus Line, with each of its posters and milestone Playbills. There is a cabinet that I house my most precious memorabilia...Gwen Verdons pic and autograph, the Producers opening nite gift from Thomas Meehan, the glass used by Natasha Richardsons Sally Bowles, and stuff from Passion, 20th Century, Penn and Teller and the original harmonica from Tommy. I often refer to my basement as the best Broadway museum in New Jersey, lol, and I've held quite a few cast parties in it. Someday, I must take and forward some pictures...it is really a cool place!
Currently, I have 3 autographed Playbills framed above my desk (Color Purple, Wicked and Avenue Q), and a framed autographed Sweeney poster against the other wall, but that's all, due to a lack of wall space. However, very shortly, I'm moving into a new apartment, and have begun preparing. I have a stack of maybe 5-10 frames for the Playbills, and 5-6 more window card frames (and window cards from Wicked, Color Purple, Movin Out, All Shook Up (autographed!) and Caroline). I also have a bunch of ads, maybe I'll figure out something to do with them. But, yeah, can't wait to move lol
um.. i'm not really a fan of posters or stuff just on the walls. In my office, I have things from all the projects, shows, television I've done.
Oh and in my bedroom which is kinda decorated in a Colombus/New World era way, i have an (I know it's not historically correct) orignal Tarzan sketch by Glen Keane on framed my wall. It is beautiful. Munk is right about the dorm room thing... be creative but think outside the box.
I like to repurpose things from my projects. My parents keep a birdcage I brought home from "mattress" in highschool and it is is covered in ivy and flowers in their yard and we love it.
