There was a recent appraisal on "Antiques Roadshow" of a drawing of a costume worn by Rita Moreno in "West Side Story," and also the red gown worn by Carol Channing in "Hello, Dolly".  If you click on the arrrow, you should be able to see the video of the appraisal.  (Not positive this link will work.)

Oh no! You fell for the classic trick! It is actually for a costume worn by Chita Rivera not Rita Moreno!

No, I did not "fall for the classic trick".  In searching for and posting a link that I thought might be enjoyed by the BWW community, I made a simple error while composing my comments.  I do, in fact, know the stage and film histories of both ladies.

Geez....Fashionguru was simply trying to point out your error in a fun way, REALLY no need to be defensive.  (THIS is why things spiral out of control here - everyone take every little comment to be an attack.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

That's not the dress Carol wore. It may have been an early sketch for it but what she wore didn't have any mauve in it and the fascinator was much different.

Its definitely a preliminary costume drawing, but I doubt Freddy Wittop re-drew - at least not for the original Broadway production. A costume sketch isn't necessarily meant to be decisive about things like the fabric choices. This is still pretty marvelous especially for what an iconic original costume it represents.
