ORLANDO | The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, along with Florida Theatrical Association and Broadway Across America, announced Feb. 10 Orlando’s Broadway series will resume Sept. 21 and will feature seven shows as a part of its 2021-22 season.
The season will feature “Hadestown,” “Tootsie,” “The Prom,” “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations,” “Disney’s Frozen,” “CATS” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
“We’re thrilled to be bringing Broadway back to the Dr. Phillips Center this fall for what will be a spectacular season,” said Susie Krajsa, president of Broadway Across America, in a press release. “We have been working diligently with producers, booking agents and other national tour representatives to reschedule and rebuild the lineup for the FAIRWINDS Broadway in Orlando season. We are so grateful for the support of our subscribers and patrons who have remained steadfast awaiting the return of Broadway to the Dr. Phillips Center.”
The Dr. Phillips Center has been holding in-person events for several months now with health and safety protocols, developed with guidance from AdventHealth, in place.

I received the same email. Hope it pans out. Not only do I want to see a couple of shows, but hopefully will finally be able to use my credit that I've had for over a year.

I think they are hoping that by September they will be able to resume. As I stated in other threads, there have been live concerts, comics and musical shows (not Broadway) for months. Mostly "C" shows, but they are selling very good even with high ticket prices. No concerts, as yet, with A listers. But I did read earlier this week, that Miranda Lambert was putting on three shows in Texas in April. Reduced attendance, covid restrictions in place and I'm sure triple the prices. If that goes over well, I'm sure we will see others doing the same.

Posted: 2/12/21 at 1:50pmI believe Broadway in Chicago is also betting on a September/Fall restart for national tours. I hope they’re right. But I’m also very skeptical. Just thinking about the botched vaccine rollout is not helping

I am also hearing that the state is looking into ways to safely inch the capacity up a bit, possibly including vaccine verification. If MSG could have 4k the numbers start to look better for high end concerts.

As vaccination numbers rise, I’m sure the 10% number will be quickly raised, as well.
I’m curious if requiring proof of vaccination to get into places is going to be the thing that’ll push some of the skeptics to just go and get it.

I would think so, at least to some extent. Nothing is simple so one thing that is going to have to be dealt with before any sort of vaccine passport can be relied on is a way to prevent fraud. This is already an issue with co-morbidities but fraud in getting the vaccine is, while bad, not life threatening to others.

Our touring house in Buffalo said on the news today that they can not open until they are able to seat 90% capacity minimum. They are one of the bigger markets in the country.

With the exception of some shows, (Lion King, Wicked, Hamilton hasn't played as yet), even after discounts and comps, we can't even get close to 90%. More like 70%. If they're lucky.
