We have preview tix for the 6th, and a co-worker of mine hooked DW and I up with tix for opening night! Question for you guys:
We have never been to an opening night. The sheet that I was given does not say much about a "dress code", but should I assume that openings are usually dressy? We were actually looking forward to dressing up a bit for this.

Judging from pics I've seen from opening nights, it tends to be more dressy than you would typically dress to a regular night. I wouldn't say you would have to wear a tux/prom dress type of outfit unless you really wanted to (although, sometimes the women wear gowns and guys do wear tuxes), but maybe a nice suit (if you are a guy) or a long black dress (if you are a girl).

I've been to a lot of opening nights. Basically, anything other than street clothes will be what you see there. You'll see the super dressy tuxes all the way down to the khakis.
I usually wear a dress and would say a guy should wear a suit although I don't think a jacket is necessary. Actually, I've seen pretty much anything you can imagine so just try not to look like you're walking in off the street. A skirt or dress would be appropriate for a girl, and a suit or at least dress pants and button down shirt for a guy.

Dress Up! - unless you work at Prada or Gucci or perform on a daily basis in the Symphony.. you rarely get a chance to show your cleaned-up side + it's Opening Nite which is always an occasion... make sure to bring your fake blood

Oh Lord, whatever you do don't dress like someone from the show. At Opening Night of Wicked there were all these girls dressed like Elphaba it was kind of weird.

I remember reading on another message board, someone said they went to a performance of Urinetown and these girls were wearing prom dresses...

Well thats...interesting. Not exactly my style though. I did, however, wear my prom dress to the Tonys this year

Sometimes groups pass on their prom dinner/after party/post drinking binge and actually do something they enjoy - like attending theater.
Sometimes there are events in the city, like pageants, where contestants go to activities - like theater.
And of course, sometimes people just like to wear their prom dress.
