"Tony Award winners Audra McDonald and Liev Schreiber will announce the nominations for the 56th Annual Drama Desk Awards April 29 at 9:30 AM at the New York Friars Club."
Is there anywhere online you can watch the Drama Desk Nomination announcement this morning?

They're up. Here's the link:
Let me just say I think Ellen Barkin and Joe Mantello were egregiously overlooked. Hopefully, that won't happen with the Tony noms. (Am I possibly correct in thinking that the inclusion of off-Broadway material may have hampered their nods. In my opinion, Joe Mantello's lack of a nomination is really a travesty. His performance was amazing.)

#4Drama Desk Nominations...
Posted: 4/29/11 at 10:23amThe cast of The Normal Heart received a special award for Outstanding Ensemble, which means individual cast members are not eligible for the competitive categories.

Let me just say I think Ellen Barkin and Joe Mantello were egregiously overlooked.
They weren't overlooked. Because Normal Heart was given the ensemble award, the individual performances weren't eligible in addition. He will be nominated for the Tony. Guaranteed.
The biggest snub (which I am happy about):
No Best Director for War Horse.

No wonder the nominations are so wack. THESE were the nominators:
The 2010-2011 Nominating Committee includes Barbara Siegel (chairperson), TalkinBroadway.com, TheaterMania.com; Jason Clark, Slant Magazine, TheaterOnline.com; Anita Gates, freelance, The New York Times; Lawrence Harbison, senior editor & columnist for Smith & Kraus, Inc.; Gerard Raymond, freelance, Back Stage; Richard Ridge, Broadway Beat TV; and Douglas Strassler, OffOffOnline.com, Show Business Weekly.

Posted: 4/29/11 at 10:32ambjh2114 they weren't really snubbed because the entire creative team is being given a special award. And don't worry they will get nominated for at Tony time.

I realize, but you would think it would still be eligible for Best Direction since that is both concept AND execution. In any case, Jerusalem not being nominated for Best Play is also a snub.
Owen22, I didn't find them that wack honestly. They were a lot more accurate than I expected them to be.

Yes but your own logic Ellen Barkin and Joe Mantello weren't overlooked, because Normal Heart was given the ensemble award. So I think it makes sense that instead of being nominated they entire creative team is being awarded for there outstanding work.
#10Drama Desk Nominations...
Posted: 4/29/11 at 10:45amNo I realize. I guess I think of Mantello and Barkin as being part of the ensemble, but when I think "creative team", I mostly think of the designers. In my head, the director is something separate. But I guess they are being awarded to, so I retract my previous statement.

Posted: 4/29/11 at 10:51amI'm happy to see Adam Bock's "A Small Fire" and its director Tripp Cullman nominated. I cannot believe the snub for Elizabeth Rodriguez in Motherfu**er. She was the heart of that show. And the War Horse directors should have been nominated too. And a nomination for Logan Marshall Green for Adam Rapp's play? No way. He was one of the weakest in the cast, let alone the entire theatre season.

Posted: 4/29/11 at 12:30pmwell, they actually aren't extremely wack, just some major MAJOR crazy inclusions and snubs. The amount of love to "The Kid", very politically correct show, but not very good. (Jack Lechner, best lyrics????????) Josh Gad? Josh Gad?? Where is Josh Gad? The book for "People in the Pictures" got a nomination? Really? Really? As awful as "Wonderland" was, I'd put that book in front of it. But again: political correctness. One could also argue "Sister Act's" inclusion over "Catch Me". And any list of award-potential directors that is missing the name Jack O'Brien is a wrong-headed list. And the wonderful (though yes, somewhat derivative of the original, but wonderful none-the-less) revival of "Angels in America" being almost completely dissed is unforgivable. No nominations for ANY Of the "Three Sisters" cast?? The "Arcadia" and most of its actors' snub??? No, on second thought, there were some majorly wack inclusions and exclusions. Yay, Trip Cullman though.

Except that Sister Act received far better reviews than Catch Me. The lack of Catch Me nominations is not a surprise. As for Three Sisters, the production was good, but the individual cast members didn't really stand out in my opinion. Tom Riley was nominated for Arcadia, and he and Lia Williams were the most deserving in my opinion. Also, I enjoyed The Kid, so I am pleased that it got some love.
I do agree about the Angels snub and the random book nomination for People in the Picture. Honestly, there is a nomination Sister Act should have gotten instead. And Josh Gad should have been nominated over Colin Donnell, but otherwise that category was incredibly tight.

I think Colin Donnell deserves that nomination...and actually he should win, he is brilliant in Anything Goes.
The nomination that is not very well deserved is the one for, sorry, Laura Osnes. She didn't do much for me, and her role is thankless to say the least.
Glad that Beth Leavel got a nomination, she's a great performer.

Yeah, as much as I like Laura Osnes, I just thought she was serviceable. It's not such a great role.
Colin, however, was wonderful.

I don't agree with you in terms of Born Yesterday. Arcadia was a veritable bore from start to finish. It's a terrible production. Born Yesterday was at least entertaining. House of Blue Leaves was terrible too, but I don't know if I thought it was worse than Arcadia. They are about neck and neck for me.
I think Colin Donnell deserves that nomination...and actually he should win, he is brilliant in Anything Goes.
You never cease to amuse me. There is no way he should win. He was terrible. He could barely sing the notes on the low end of his register. And he had about as much charisma as a pen. Laura was divine in, yes, a thankless role. But she made it exquisite.
