You can argue back and forth about the musicals. But wasn't The Glass Menagerie about the best reviewed revival of a play of all time?
Can someone please explain the special awards? If The Realistic Joneses was so "special" why didn't it get any regular nominations? Or is "special" just a synonym for snub - but we want stars at the ceremony?

Virginia Woolf was pretty well reviewed too I believe. In any case, I saw both of these revivals. They were both brilliant. Hope the Tonys right this wrong.
The Drama Desks usually award two ensembles each year. Typically, the members of these ensembles are ineligible for individual awards.
^ I was watching the nominations livestream, and indeed they said the Special 'Ensemble Award' recipients were ineligible in the other categories as a result of their Special Award.

I found the fact that Kinky Boots last season not being nominated quite weird. I also found the fact that Aladdin get a best book nom is ridiculous but even more absurd costumes and sets not getting nominated what the fact???

Has the role of Amanda ever secured a Tony nomination. Cherry Jones was excellent but Glass is truly an ensemble piece...wonderful that Brian J. Smith and Celia Keenan-Bolger were nominated. Also there have been several revivals of Glass on Broadway and none have ever been nominated for a Tony Award, either for production or director. So why the great surprise.
The surprise stems from this production being lauded as the second coming. I have no doubt Menagerie will perform well on Tuesday, but regardless this is still quite bizarre.
I dunno. Menagerie didn't really stick with me like it did others. I was much more interested in Audra's performance.
