And when I say physical attributes, I am not speaking of their body in general but their package. Quite frankly, every one in the original Broadway cast was packing impressive equipment. Coincidence after all parts were cast, I think not.

The current Take me Out cast is SOOOO good. I saw the whow with my mom when it was in seattle. WOW! Phenomenal acting, amazing script, and fabulous looking *men*! And the guy who plays darren...you know the shower scene is going to be good from the second you catch a glimpse of him in his baseball pants...I love that play (for more than just the nakey parts...I promise!)

I agree badd that it IS a gimmick to sell tix, even when some of the naked symbolism in this show was warranted. This happened to a friend's play out here a few years ago, "First Couple" an excellent production, great writing, compelling, topical subject matter (story about the first gay president), outstanding cast, etc. It had some competition with 2 other 'gay' flavored plays, both featuring gratuitous nudity and suffered. Many I know were saying that they wanted to see "the gay play with the naked guy in it". It's a sad reality, but I would venture that 85% of nudity in plays is irrelevant, other than to sell tix.

Equity rules say you cant be asked to take your clothes off (at all) until after youve been seen for your singing or acting ability at the very least... and then I believe an equity rep has to be there and it has to be private... (ie, you cant ask a room of men to disrobe at an audition at once because you have to guarantee everyones professionalism)
I think the nudity ISN'T a gimmick. The tension that nudity naturally creates for an audience GREATLY enhances the underlying tension of the baseball players onstage. I think that's why it was put there to begin with. Established actors like David Eigenberg (who was naked ALOT in it) would not go naked unless they completely knew that it was artistically justified.
It may not be a gimmick, but it surely wasn't needed for the shower scene. As I said before, it could've been staged different so below the waist wasn't seen. I AM NOT COMPLAINING MIND YOU.

baddadnpa, youre missing the point. the scenes wouldve been less effective without it. the tension that the nudity causes amongst men when sexuality is an issue is vital to the story line, and the audience has to understand what its like for the men to be showering together like that... they probably couldve been creative with sets and props being in the way but a half wall would not allow the audience in on the uneasiness of the situation and something like strategically placing the shower head wouldve come off as comical and distracting from the story.
The tension would've been there, through acting, without having the audience see EVERYTHING. Again, not that I am complaining.

I disagree. They made a decision to use shower scenes, if they wanted to go half way and not show you it in plain terms, the locker room wouldve been enough but then the point would not have been made.
I guess was should agree on disagreeing! LOL!
Scott Bakula
Chris Meloni
Jere Shea
Michael Baresse
John Selya
Keith Roberts
Chris Sieber
Any of those would do nicely...
JOHN TARTAGLIA AS A BASEBALL PLAYER????
Come ON!!!! Even he would probably laugh at that one!!
'Established actors like David Eigenberg (who was naked ALOT in it) would not go naked unless they completely knew that it was artistically justified.'
David Eigenberg had already appeared nude early in his career when he played the hustler in SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION.
Amazing that many of these cast lists are made up almost exclusively of white men...even though the demands of the script call for a multi-ethnic cast.
NO...I'm not crying 'racism'...just KNOW THE F*CKING PLAY BETTER!
To make Robbie feel better, let's cast Taye Diggs as well. I bet he would look good all wet and naked.
I don't think a "dream cast" would have to stick to the limitations of the script. It's just in fun. Buty Taye Diggs or Will Smith would be nice to see in the show, now that you mention it.
You mean, Mr. Matt, that we can't come up with at least ONE hot Asian and ONE hot Latino (although there's two in the script) for our dream???
Come on, you rice queens, let's hear it for our hottie friends from the Far East!
Jackie Chan, BD Wong, Mako? Sorry, I just don't know many hot Asian actors.
How about Jonathan Pryce with his Miss Saigon makeup?? Just kidding!
Here ya go robbiej:
Eduardo Noriega
Gael Garcia Bernal
Daniel Dae Kim (Lost)
Russell Wong (Joy Luck Club)
Just no Ricky Martin, please...
How about Marc Anthony?
Come on, you rice queens, let's hear it for our hottie friends from the Far East!
Did someone just call me?
Marc Anthony is an excellent choice!
But here's the REAL question: Who's the pitcher and who's the catcher?
I hope they would be versatile!
I saw the original Bway cast and I must say, in response to a previous post, that the Denis O'Hare was the ultimate Mason; now, I don't have another to compare him to, but I was completely blown away by O'Hare's performance; I was laughing and crying, putty in his hands.
As for the other fellas, I also agree that it's hard to surpass the hunkiness and beauty that is Daniel Sunjata. (I occasionally see him on "The Shield" [I think!] on FX, and I always say---"I've seen you naked!!") But I would really like to see Barret Foa play a role...'Cuz not only is he cutie, but he could fit the young rookie role well.
Matt Morrison would be nice--Gavin Creel--
It's hard. I can't think of people who haven't been mentioned!
Ah, well. Good thread, none-the-less, as it allows me to dream of hot men...without clothes on. (Not like I don't do plenty of that in my everyday life--Ha!)
