Do dressers follow an actor from show to show or is it random or do they usually stay with the same show? I know there are endless of answers to this so give me all of them. I ask this, because I noticed laura osnes' dresser for Cinderella is also laura benanti's at she loves me, but I'm pretty sure I remember laura osnes saying she had the same dresser for Bonnie and Clyde. I'm just wondering how it works.

Sorry Brody that is incorrect. Star dressers are usually exclusive to the Star. That's why they're called Star Dressers. All dressers are hired by (and work for) the production --- not the actor. Many stars have their favorites who they will request during contract negotiations, and the producer will try to hire that person to keep the star happy.

You are correct. Established stars have dressers they work with all of the time and that is usually part of the contract negotiation. When the star the dresser usually works with isn't currently doing something on stage, some of those dressers do go to other shows, usually as a star dresser for someone else. Sometimes they'll stay with the show when the next star comes in.

Pretty sure Sutton Foster has only used Julien Havard for her past shows and I think these days, he is exclusive to her
ETA actually he might not be her dresser anymore. Hmm this article says he was her former and that was written in 2011! Lol. http://www.playbill.com/article/photo-special-julien-havard-sutton-fosters-former-dresser-shares-his-artwork-with-playbill-com-181809
You guys are funny to think that a dresser is exclusive to someone. You think Sutton's dresser is sitting around waiting until Sutton decides to come back to Broadway?? Of course they take other shows and dress other people. Most are probably making their union minimum, plus any tips they get. They can't afford to sit around waiting between shows.
Generally dressing positions are based on seniority, with that exception for requested dressers by producers to appease a star.
They might be exclusive DURING a show, and certainly known actors get to pick their dressers....but Tag is right. They are picking up gigs wherever they can.
