My mother has, and with good reason, banned me from wearing spandex/latex to the movie. And I'm not exactly built to play Joanne, so I had to think about what I was going to do, and I will be Mimi! Not in the infamous blue pants, no, but when she sings "Light My Candle." From the Broadway version. I've already got some stuff.

A Mark scarf is fine, or a RENT shirt, but dressing up as Angel just for the movie...
I will be wearing my Mark scarf and I'll probably make myself an Anthony shirt. My non-Renthead friends will, of course, be completely humiliated to be seen with me, but they can all kiss my hot little a**. Patronus I agree with you. Feel free to mouth the words, but sing and you will get pelted with my snacks.
All of this has given me an interesting thought. I wonder if the Rent movie could theoretically develop a cult like following similar to Rocky Horror?
I doubt it in this day an age with so many alternate forms of entertainment, but it would be intriquing.
Once again, as a public service announcement: If you are singing during my screening of Rent, I will kill you.
I like that PSA. A lot.
I think it's funny that people are going to moo with a movie screen. I mean, (even though I never do because I'm shy) it makes sense to moo with a real person on stage. But with a movie screen? Weird!
It depends on how it's filmed really. There could be a call for it in the direction which would make it okay I suppose, but if people start erupting into moos as soon as she says "Moo with me" that is going to be annoying.
I guess the bottom line is that people have an enjoyable time at the film, but I'd caution everyone to remember that there is a fine line between you enjoying yourself and you having an adverse effect on someone ELSE'S enjoyment of the film.
If there are truly a bunch of RentHEADS at the film making noise it could hurt the word of mouth which this film will really need IMO.
All that being said, Rent isn't like POTO. The Poto fans could show up wearing capes and just be quiet...the Rent group is younger, more energetic and just rowdy in general.
I'll prob just wear a T-shirt, but I think it's wrong to criticize those who want to get into it. I mean, I recently went to a Sound of Music sing-along, and they had a costume contest and we all sang along and had props and it was loads of fun!
I agree no one should be singing along(I prob will unconsciously be mouthing along)
But on mooing...umm...gee Em, who do you know that said they probably will moo along? ::moves eyes around and whistles innocently:: Well, I mean, I do see your point...what if I do it quietly(as opposed to in the theatre when I'm like the loudest one) so as to not interfere with others enjoyment of the movie but satisfy my own childish urge? And umm, if you're next to me, I'll...look the other way or something?
Well, hopefully I'll take my squealing down. I think I'll be totally bouncing and squealing in my seat before the movie starts but more calm and quiet and tearful when the movie starts to not miss anything. Then go back to bouncing and squealing nonstop after. Maybe I'll be soo effected I'll be crying the whole movie and my moos would just sound like tears so I won't.
Exactly, Patronus - if "regular" people go, and are turned off by the semi-psychotic nature of the RENTheads, that could turn them off from telling their friends to see it, etc. "I saw this movie, but there were all of these crazy kids..." Because some of them.... well, they're not my favorite people to be around. HOWEVER, I think all of this circus-act type stuff will probably happen at things like midnight showings, which people who aren't fans are less likely to attend.
I'll be too much in my own little world to be bothered, anyway, even though I can tend to be a bit irritable. We shall seeee....
Hmm, good call Patronus, maybe I'll hold back for a bit, but if ends up like the show where for a couple seconds all that's going on is ppl mooing, I may not be able to contain myself. But I suppose if something else was going on in the movie, like dialogue over the mooing, I wouldn't want to miss that.
POTO fans went to the movie in capes? Wow... that cracks me up.
I mean, I recently went to a Sound of Music sing-along, and they had a costume contest and we all sang along and had props and it was loads of fun!
Ah, now thats different. If they have a Rent sing-along, I'll be there belting out "Another Day" with the best of them.
Moo.
There's my moo quota for the year. Guess I can't moo at the movie!
I hate singing along. Like, I do it to other movie musicals when I'm at home, by myself, but I'd never do it at the theatre.
Emcee - I don't moo either at the show either. And I agree - mooing with a movie screen is pretty weird.

I'm I the only person who finds "dressing up" in a costume to see movies is beyond tacky?
Gasp! Emcee, did you just moo? I think that needs to go in my signature now.
I did, but that's my only moo for the rest of the year! Waste not, I say.
I shall, pardon the pun, moo with you.
Moo!
I think that's enough for one lifetime.
Yeah...um, I have a big ass. I try to avoid mooing in public places.
Haha!
Ah, WickedJerseyGirl, you crack me up.
Jeans and a sweatshirt here. But I am actually taking the day off to go see it. Just in case I like it enough to see it twice. I am not usually a fanatic about shows and movies but I am really anticipating this one. I think it would be cool to see people dressed up as characters from the show. They do it for Harry Potter, why not RENT?!!
Hell, if I see the movie at midnight, I just might go in my PJ's. That is something I would do.
Then again, if it were acceptable, I'd go everywhere in hoodies and PJ pants.
I'm soooo gonna be dressed up....and I'm gonna sing every freaking word....I'll show everyone what Ohio has to offer...
and, by the way, if anyone is interested in Rent shirts...let me know...send me a PM
anyone sings alone when I see it gets smacked, royally........this is NOT Rocky Horror!
"Then again, if it were acceptable, I'd go everywhere in hoodies and PJ pants."
Now you're talkin', Emcee. Woo.
