OMG if they had a rent movie sing-along where we could dress up and make noises at certain parts and wave our arms and respond...heavenly. But I wouldn't do any of that stuff in the theatre.

If people wnat to go in costumes, why should you be bothered? They're just enjoying the movie the way they want. I totally agree that singing is bad b/c it's interferring w/ your enjoyment.

Okay, moo!

Unfortunately, my quota for the year is about 500...sooo...won't stop me.

And Em, since you sang Take Me Or Leave Me with me that night after the rent set, is that your singing quota for the year as well?

I really hope people don't sing along in the theatre, at least the first time I see it. After that, it's every renthead for themself!

Idina: This is called a kielbasa! Pianist: It's called a 'KA-basa'... Idina: It's called a kabasa? Oh, a KIEL-basa's a sausage, isn't it? I CAN PLAY THAT TOO! HULLO!!

It is indeed. I was sick, cold, slightly drugged and very happy. Therein lies the reason!

After coming upon this thread, I felt obligated to actually take the time to register and login in order to reply.....

Reading these posts has made me seriously consider going ANYWHERE BUT NYC (where I live) to see the movie. If I hear ANYONE singing through it, I will honestly not only pelt a full soda at you, but you'll be lucky if you come out of there with gum-free hair. Honestly, people. It's a MOVIE. I don't care how many times you see it...respect everyone else in the theatre and shut your freakin' mouths during the screening. No matter what you may think, you DO NOT sound like Idina, Adam, Anthony, the actor playing the waiter at Life Cafe, etc...

And I won't even comment on the costumes people are planning on wearing...

Am I excited to see it? Hell yes. Am I excited to stand in line for it and sit with 900 screaming, singing, rabid "Rentheads?" Not particularly. Get a grip.

"I probably won't be dressing up since no one can really see me in the theatre".

Yes but part of the fun of Rent is going all the way!! Mimi probably wouldn't care if anyone saw her or not in whatever she wears to work, and Maureen sure doesn't mind mooing in public.

BooBooKitty, THANK YOU.

I live in NYC and have been a RENT fan since 1994 when it was at NYTW. I'm as excited to see this film as the next person. It looks amazing.

But. It sounds to me like most of the people who are planning on dressing up or think that singing along with the film is okay MUST be quite young. Bottom line, disrupting other people's movie experience is incredibly annoying and disrespectful. I, too, may get some violent urges if anyone starts acting like this movie is an interactive experience.

I'm begging you, PLEASE DON'T. Dress up, have your RENT parties, have your fun. But PLEASE, PLEASE keep your mouths firmly SHUT for the duration of the film. But go ahead and clap and scream at the end!

I really don't mean for this to sound harsh...but please, everyone, just remember that this is a special experience for A LOT of people. Updated On: 9/8/05 at 04:42 PM

Maybe I'm missing something and if so I apologize...I agree no viewer should interfere with another viewer's enjoyment of the film, but how would anyone dressing up really effect someone else's enjoyment of the film? I kinda like Em's pajama idea, prob will wear the shirt w/ pajama pants. The movie theatre's dark, it's not like I'm going to show off, as long as you don't show up completely naked I don't care what you wear.

For the people who are planning to attend this movie and seriously sing along:

Does your love for Rent give you some sense of entitlement above that of your fellow moviegoers? I'm not trying to be a bitch here, and I love me some Rent, too, but I think it's ridiculous to go to a movie and become an obvious disruption to other people who have paid to be there as well.

As others have said, dressing up is fine, but for those who are seriously planning to go and sing along to every song, I'd urge you to reconsider. It's not cute. It's not funny. It kind of an a**holey thing to do.
