Posted: 5/19/08 at 5:13pmThe current tour is Equity. I don't know if it is changing over any time soon.

Posted: 5/19/08 at 5:17pmThat's what I thought but it is listed on NETworks. But I then read that they produce Eq and Non-Eq.

Posted: 5/19/08 at 5:17pmThe tour in Chicago last month was definitely Equity. I've never heard of a tour "changing" from Equity to non-Equity. It would be a new tour by a different production company, most likely, but I haven't heard anything about Chaperone doing that.

The EVITA tour from 2005/2006 starring Kathy V. (last name is escaping me!) went from Equity when it was rumored to be leading up to Broadway with the West End transfer, and it is now Non-Equity. But I think it closed for a month or two-ish, but not too long.
The Dirty Rotten Scoundrels tour I think also went from Eq to Non-Eq.

Posted: 5/19/08 at 5:58pmYeah I looked all over searching "Drowsy Chaperone non equity" and nothing has come up.

Posted: 5/19/08 at 7:35pmTours frequently will go from Equity status to non-Equity without changing producers or whatever. I heard a (semi-) funny story from someone who did the non-Equity "Full Monty" tour that the Equity actors the tour had previous used, and then fired to save money, wrote pro-union graffitti on the men's public bathroom setpiece for the new non-Equity actors to look at onstage!

It's after next Thanksgiving. I was watching a video from when it was (and still is here) in Kansas City at Starlight Theatre. They interviewed Georgia Engel and she said thru next Thanksgiving I saw it last night and it is on my top three musicals I've seen! The theatre seats almost or about 8,000 people there was probably 5,000 or so in the audience and from what I could tell they all enjoyed it.
Here's the the link to the video on youtube....

Posted: 6/21/08 at 12:44pm8,000 people? That must be a horrible place to see a show. I saw the show in ATL and it was brilliant. I thought it was such a perfectly put together show.

Posted: 6/21/08 at 12:51pmNot really. You can see everything well. It's no different if you're far back of orchestra for Wicked at the Gershwin. Depending on the the show, sometimes it's hard to hear further back. And hey, the far back seats are only $9 and $20. Unsold tickets before the show are 50% off for Student and Military IDs.

Posted: 6/21/08 at 2:29pmThe next leg will most definently be non equity. It's switching over during the summer so the 08-09 will be non-eq.

Posted: 6/21/08 at 2:47pmThat's too bad it's going Non-eq. . I'm so excited to be able to see this show in California! I can't wait to see the Tour cast and maybe later I'll see the new cast back East. It's still nice to see the show continuing on into next year. It's just too funny.

Posted: 6/21/08 at 3:35pmThe current EQUITY tour of Drowsy will play its last stop in October in Seattle. It may go non-equity at that point, but right now it is very much equity.

Think of it this way... by going Non-Eq smaller cities will be able to experience DROWSY that wouldn't have otherwise (with the original staging, at least).
From what I hear the show's doing okay on the road, but not really making all that much money, unfortunately. Fiscally, the move to license the show to NETworks for a non-Eq tour makes sense.

I know for a fact that it's going non-Equity. I'm currently working with the man who is to stage manage the show once it goes non-Eq.

Posted: 8/22/08 at 10:14pmI know that the current leg of the tour is Equity. It is playing in the Bushnell in Hartford. I know for a fact that that theatre is an equity theatre. It is playing there in February.

Winston-I played the Bushnell 2 times on Non-eq national tours back in 01 and 02. The Bushnell is a touring house, and while it may be an IATSE house, that doesn't necessarily mean that it is an Equity house. The term "Equity House" basically refers to a theater that produces its own shows using Equity actors. The Bushnell hosts touring Productions. The Theater I am currently playing at right now (Eisenhower Hall, West Point NY) hosts both Non-eq tours (the current tour of hairspray) and Equity Tours (Les mis which I am doing right now).
Also-Drowsy is going Non-Eq.
