A friend of mine saw it and HATED it. I think it sounds interesting, though.

Best play I've seen since Downstate. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea though. Multiple walkouts when I saw it. Marylouise Burke was PHENOMENAL but the cast was uniformly great. Writing was top notch.

I saw it and liked it a lot.

It's inspired by James Joyce's "The Dead," but with a sort of twist in the premise, and also set in modern day. It kind of reminded me of "The Humans," maybe a bit of "The Ferryman," maybe a bit of Chekhov - not saying the play was as good as those other works, I'm speaking more in terms of what the play reminded me of stylistically.

There's also a slight undercurrent of absurd humor to the whole thing. A lot of the play was actually pretty funny.

It tackles a lot of themes, ideas, and character threads - arguable too many, but it worked for me. There's a lot to digest, and a lot that's up to interpretation. But for me, all the disparate threads kind of distilled to an exploration of what it's like being a person in modern society; everyone is kind of lost, kind of lonely, kind of desperate to be liked; trying to find some communal ritual without really knowing what they're looking for.

The acting is really strong, as is the direction, I thought.

I saw it the other night and really enjoyed it. The acting was excellent and I was surprised by how much I found myself laughing out loud throughout. I also got some "The Humans" vibes...kind of weird, kind of creepy, but also funny with very interesting (and authentic) characters. It felt a little long by the end (about 2 hours, with no intermission), but I'm very glad I went.

Happy to hear people liking it so I’ll definitely go check this one out.

Why were some people walking out? Was it offended subscribers or people who thought it was not ver good. A little over 2 hours does not seem that long.

There were 1 or 2 walkouts when I saw it too. I think some might find the play a bit aimless, and maybe a little bit too quirky or absurd for a play that's relatively grounded in dramatic realism. Just stylistically not everyone's cup of tea, understandably.

Seriously, how can anyone answer that wuestion unless they are one of the folks who had walked out?

Perhaps we can hire someone to stand in the lobby with a taperecoder to interview those who are walking out of the show. We're bound to get definitive answers that way.

I mean, oftentimes you can absolutely gauge why people might be walking out but ... ok? I assume in this case, people were bored. It's a slow burner with not a lot of action. I saw the premiere in Ireland (produced by Druid) and absolutely loved it though I understand why it may not be everybody's cup of tea. I'm also a huge Joyce fan and loved the references (oftentimes pretty subtle) to "The Dead"

There were several walkouts at an earlier performance I attended.  Just happened randomly, so I don't think people were offended, just bored.  It lets out a bit after 10:10pm with no intermission.  Would be a great show at 90 minutes, but it really tries our patience with its current runtime & I'm not sure I'd recommend it in its present state. Lots of great acting & wacky scenarios like when someone crawls under the table.

I think you can gage it by the way people are acting, body language, and such and often times people mutter remarks on their way out. The theatre is quite small so it is easy to pick up on things. I don’t think one needs a tape recorder for interviewing exiting patrons.

I’m never trusting my friend, who said they hated it, again. I’m just getting out of this and I don’t think there’s words in the English language to describe how much I love this. Easily, one of the best plays I’ve seen in may be a decade. The influence of “James Joyce’s The Dead” (one of the greatest pieces of literature ever) runs throughout this but is different enough that it’s not a direct parallel but more of a “presence” that flows through it.

The play features a uniformly perfect cast, led by Mary Louise Burke who wouldn’t have any competition if this were Tony worthy. Everything about it was perfect. Five stars. I’m typing this as I walk home and it’s going to be on my mind for a long time. F*ck, that was good.

I thought it was engaging with decent performances. Parts of it felt overly directed and some actors seemed to be shouting their lines for no particular reason. Some very funny moments.
