Edward Scissorhands last night

Posted: 3/15/07 at 11:06amWhat an exquisite production. Beautifully danced, wonderful (live) music and a great night at the theatre. One of the best things I've seen in a long time. Well worth the trip to Brooklyn! Too bad its only a 3 week run; I'm sure it could run much longer.

Could you tell me alittle bit more about it.
Is it a ballet?? Pointe work?
Is it Modern dance, lyrical?
Any singing at all?
I have an interest in getting tickets but want to know a bit more about it.
Thanks...

Posted: 3/15/07 at 11:55amDid anyone get tickets off of TDF? If so, how are they?
I'm only good at being young

2373 ... not being well-versed in dance terminology, I will say that it is not "classical" ballet, no pointe work. I would call it modern dance, but there are certainly balletic elements. There are 2 casts; last night's cast danced beautifully. The guy playing Edward was incredible, but then so was the entire cast. It is a completely danced piece; no dialogue or singing at all. Yet it thoroughly tells the story and follows the movie very closely. Costumes and sets were great. I would definately recommend getting tickets for this.
I got my tickets on TDF and seats were mid-mezz, which was fine.

MimiJudith, it doesn't sound like a show that would do well on Broadway. The producers have been very smart about touring this show for quite some time now, without submitting it to the pressures of Broadway. It doesn't belong there. Perhaps a nice run at Lincoln Center would work.

Posted: 3/15/07 at 12:19pmFoster, I definitely see what you mean. It would be good at Lincoln Center or even at the theater that had Shockheaded Peter (I don't remember the name of that theater).

I loved Shockheaded Peter. They should make it the Fall show opposite Rocky Horror in a seasonal repertory theatre with The Grinch and Christmas Carol in Winter, Jesus Christ Superstar and Harvey (it has a rabbit) for the Spring, and L!V!C! and Oh Calcutta for the summer, when nobody wants to wear costumes anyway :)
I really have to stop letting those voices in my head have a turn at the keyboard...

Posted: 3/15/07 at 1:53pmWasn't it just a beautiful piece? I saw in LA in December and can't get it off my mind. Stunning.
re: Edward Scissorhands last night#12
Posted: 3/15/07 at 1:56pmI don't see why it wouldn't work on a limited run in a smaller broadway house. Matt Bourne's Swan Lake ran on broadway and this has just about the same degree of name recognition on not only the movie's part but on the name of Matt himself. Plus the curiosity factor is there. I mean hell, Forever Tango has been on broadway twice.

Posted: 3/15/07 at 2:34pmI'm so excited. The show comes to Denver in late April and I have 5th row tix! I've wanted to see this since I heard about it 2 years ago.

Posted: 3/15/07 at 4:43pmYes...live music. No, it was not conducted by the composer. It was conducted by the Music Director.

Posted: 3/15/07 at 5:05pmLook at the top of the insert that was in your program. The Music Director is conducting all the performances. I should know, as I am that person. Mr. Davies was going to do a few, but is not now. Not being bitchy...just clarifying. I'm glad you came, and glad you enjoyed it.

Posted: 3/15/07 at 5:13pmIt was lovely, a very special evening. I'm glad the show is being seen in NYC. Matthew Bourne's shows are always so clever and brilliant.

Posted: 3/15/07 at 5:14pmIs it pretty easy to get tix, or is it mostly sold out?
re: Edward Scissorhands last night#24
Posted: 3/15/07 at 5:14pmI wish I could see it! I can't figure out why it's not coming to the Chicago area.
