According to the Tams-Witmark site, "A Man Could Go Quite Mad," along with "Ceylon," "Moonfall Reprise" and "Settling Up the Score" are available as optional numbers. I sure would hate to see a production without the "Moonfall Reprise," which is so lovely.

I think they mean the "Moonfall Quartet" that happens right after the scene it's done first.

I have a theory that no two productions of Drood have ever had the same song list. Some with a different order (switching "Name of Love/Moonfall (reprise)" and "Off to the Races"), or different songs ("A Bristish Subject" or "Ceylon"), or some other variation.

It's an enormously fun show, either to do or to see, as long as the cast has full energy. I remember a few years ago the St. Louis Rep had a fine production that I saw and loved!

...George Hearn as the Chairman, anyone?

no, "A Man Could Go Quite Mad" it an still an option. I comes as "additional" music. It's a director's choice now. I used it when I did Drood two seasons ago.

I just directed DROOD and we included "Moonfall Quartet" and "A Man Could Go Quite Mad." I can't imagine not including it.

DROOD is definitely having a big resurgence. Ours was the first of four productions being staged in Los Angeles this season (previously the show hadn't been done outside of a school since 1994).

Rupert Holmes has apparently been tweaking the show and I'm pretty sure it will end up in New York in some form again quite soon. Hopefully, he'll come up with a new number for the Landless Twins as both "British Subject" and "Ceylon" are terrible numbers!

I played in the pit for a production of this show last summer. We added "A Man Could Go Quite Mad," but not any of the other optional songs. It was fun seeing who the audience picked each night for the detective, the murderer, and the lovers. Such a fun show!

And I agree, "British Subject" and "Ceylon" are both pretty bad.

after seeing a wonderful production of DROOD here in Boston, i realized that CURTAINS is almost a complete rip off of the show. i doubt there could be another version of this show done well on Broadway. but an Off-Broadway venture might be more suitable.
