As much as I love Cherry Jones, I think I might actually love DOUBT beyond words once I see it with Eileen.

You know, I was hoping for Frances McDormand but I gotta say I am not disappointed they went with Eileen. She. Will. Be. Fierce.

I think she will. I saw the show two times and each time I did, I found Cherry to be missing something specific in each performance. She just didn't do anything for me...maybe I just went on her off nights?

Just an opinion: I thought Cherry was great in Doubt. She's doing Faith healer next. I guess she's not going to lighten up anytime soon.

safety - it's all subjective, of course, but yours is the first negative opinion I've seen regarding Ms. Jones' performance - either in the press or on this board.

Cherry did a fine job in Doubt, I'm not saying she was horrible or anything like that. However, I grew up in London and attended Catholic boarding school for my entire schooling and I just didn't find her to be a convincing nun. She just didn't thrill me very much.
I think I did read one negative review on Cherry's performance in a magazine (Hello, I think) and I read here that someone went to see Doubt and Cherry was forgetting her lines and was even asking for the lines.

Eileen Atkins as Sister Aloysius - THE CASTING GODS for this show are Brilliant! Gawd...this play will run forever and be successful with continued BRILLIANT casting like this. I can't wait to see it again now!

i'm sure eileen atkins will find things in that role no one even knows is there.
btw--i served many many years in american catholic schools and am related to various catholic clergy and i thought cherry was spot on. i saw early in the mtc run ( 2 weeks after opening) never saw it at the Kerr.
