I came up with a bunch of sites that have this information in Spanish only, and I can't find any in English.
Might be just a rumor, but I wonder if she leaked some info. of negotiations to the Latin American press.

I'd love to see a production of Evita come to New York, but I don't know if I'd like it to be the London revival. But I do like Elena Roger.
I hope not. Her vocals are pretty atrocious on the recording.
Weren't there rumors that she'd be playing Fosca in Passion in the West End? That'd be more interesting than her doing Evita again, honestly.
If Evita comes back, they should get an unknown actress. Or Lady Gaga.
I really want a revival. I really DON'T want her in it.
That recording is horrible, especially the synthesized sounding orchestra. Blech. I threw it out.
I would actually like to see Karen Olivo as Eva.
Elena's accent is a bit harsh on the recording, but when I saw the show several months later (I think the show opened in the summer and I saw it around February) I thought she was quite good. Her accent and pronunciation had mellowed. That said, I wouldn't object to somebody else in a Broadway revival. I did like that production (London revival), though. It's a shame it wasn't better received.
I would LOVE nothing more than an Evita revival. I just don't want Elena Roger to star in it. The vocals on the CD are horrendous. I listened once, and haven't listened since. The CD just gathers dust now.
I can't speak for Elena, but I would love for this show to be revived. But I would really like a unknown to cast in the title character.
I really would LOVE Karen Olivo to play Evita.

YES!
That CD really does not do that production justice! I'm not a fan of the musical but I did like that production and the cast ~
There's something not ~right~ about Karen Olivo as Evita to me.
^ I am NOT referring to you AT ALL. But I think some people take issue with the color of Olivo's skin. She would be darker than most Evas. But the woman is a fantastic belter, and has proved that she is quite a gifted actress.
She would look kind of funny with a blonde wig on. :-P
I *really* liked Olivo in West Side Story, and I think she probably could sing the score very well. But she still comes across a little too modern for me.
Sutton Foster for Evita!
Eva Peron was not awkward and boring. Sutton Foster as Eva would be sleep-inducing.
But she still comes across a little too modern for me.
I agree, I thought she was far too contemporary in WSS.
Yes, the WSS that Laurents purposely tried making more modern. No where in the playbill does it say that this production is set in the 1950's.
^ Well, that makes more sense. I still think she's too modern for Evita. And that's not her fault. I also think Kate Baldwin is too classic for anything that takes place from about 1959 on.
Given the sound of the score, mostly pop rock, with some ballads thrown in, Olivo would handle it just fine. There is nothing period about the score of the show, save for a tango or two.
I'll throw another name into the mix that a lot of people won't like, but I'll do it anyway. Eden Espinosa would sound incredible

I'm willing to believe that the CD does not do her justice but man alive, her voice just sounds harsh on that CD.

Karen Olivo would be a great Evita.
She's sexy, Latin, and dangerous (not that any of those are related to one another). Evita has the tendency to be a role that's portrayed as a little wimpy, a little waiflike. Evita was strong, powerful, and sometimes even cuckholding. She was a maneater in some respects, and Karen Olivo would perfectly put across those aspects of her personality.

It seemed more than rumours:

She can do both.
