Elf - updates?

I haven't heard any updates on Elf since the official announcement. Anyone got any more info?

Yea, apparently, Noah Weisburg's current status is the understudy that might take over if they can't find a big name to play the lead. He'd be amazing though, so let's hope he takes over. Other than that, I've got nothin haha

Noah is perfect. Love his voice.

His contract says "if we can't find someone else the part is yours"?
Who's his agent?

Elf - updates?

I've heard Beth Leavel (who has played Buddy's mom in several developmental incarnations of the show) will be part of the Broadway production.

Noah Weisberg was involved in the workshop that took place last year. He's terrific.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

They just had open calls for dancers last week.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

A friend just told me they are in rehearsals.

Any news on the creative team for the show? I am curious to see who is designing the sets and costumes.

Ask your friend who "they" are.

Elf - updates?

All he told me is that his friend is in the show and they are in rehearsals. That's all I know.

In rehearsals in New York? Is there an out of town try-out (though that might be silly for a holiday show)? It doesn't go into previews until November 2nd. Would they really be rehearsing it already? I don't really know how Broadway shows go with rehearsals.

Elf - updates?

I am assuming in NYC. The actor lives and is in NYC.

With all due respect to the participants in this effort, I still have trouble taking this seriously. It is like a bad joke on the artistic quality of the new Broadway musical. ELF, THE MUSICAL, like, really?

i do love Noah, but i am seriously praying that, because it is a limited engagement, will ferrel might reprise the role. that would be amazing. hes what makes that movie so fun.

Broadway shows usually rehearse 4-6 weeks.
I don't think there is any out of town try out.
#16

Elf - updates?

^ You are correct. There is no out-of-town tryout. i personally can't wait to see this, but I would like a cast announcement soon.

Elf - updates?

That's what I was thinking, CurtainPullDowner. So would you think it's unlikely that they are already rehearsing when they're not previewing til November?

Agreed, wdwfreak. Hopefully an announcement is on its way!

Pre-rehearsals.

What does pre-rehearsals mean? Table work? Workshopping? Or are you being sarcastic?

Elf - updates?

Maybe it's the same friend who said they were in rehearsals for SPIDEY, than the announcement came that they were starting rehearsals Aug. 16th.

Maybe they have signed contracts but if all these shows are having pre rehearsals someone should call Equity.

Elf - updates?

Both ELF and SPIDER-MAN have begun the "rehearsal" phases.

In the case of SPIDER-MAN, it's all been technical flying rehearsals. At least that was the update I got last week.

In the case of ELF, I was just informed this morning that indeed they have been bringing in some performers for rehearsal, but it wasn't specified as to what they were rehearsing.

Full rehearsals for ELF was slated to begin in September but may now happen in late August.

Full rehearsals for SPIDER-MAN...well...everyone has been "in the dark" about that. Don't believe what is in the press releases.

I'd LOVE it if Chris Fitzgerald played Buddy, because he's flippin' hilarious. But who knows.

"Any news on the creative team for the show? I am curious to see who is designing the sets and costumes."

Gregg Barnes is designing the costumes (I just finished working with him on my current show) and they are going to be fantastic!
