Am I wrong or did she thank everyone and leave him out (on purpose)?
I highly doubt she left him out on purpose. Joel Grey has said that due to his involvement with ANYTHING GOES he met with George C. Wolfe and disucced the production, saw that they had the same vision and let him take the lead. Obviously Joel Grey was still involved with the production, but much of the staging/concept has stayed the same from the Walter Kerr reading.
I thought that was weird considering that she mentioned almost anyone on the entire planet, except for the show co-director.
I think people try to find "acceptance speech slights" where they aren't. While I've never been in the position I have to think that accepting an award on a live broadcast can be a bit daunting. Trying to name everyone you need/want to name in a short period of time. Add to that the emotional high of winning - it's easy to let some people slip by.
Where's the thread about Sutton Foster not mentioning any of her female costars? Huh...
I'm not trying to find slights; I couldn't care less whom she thanked.
But I did notice it.
IdinaBell's explanation makes sense to me, though.
I found it odd too, especially because the camera was on Grey for so much of her speech.
I don't know. It was her first major award and being in the business for so long, she probably had a laundry list of people to thank not even involved in the production.
Watching backstage interviews from last night, Richard Ridge asked her (snd all the winners) if they forgot to thank anyone and Ellen said she wanted to thank Joel for his wonderful idea. So there ya go.
