Emcee - i dont talk to you a lot, but i always find what you have to say interesting and insightful. That was a great review (and, yes I read the whole thing ). I am really glad that you enjoyed yourself and that this odyssey that you went on with this piece of art has a happy ending. I can only imaging what you are felling now that you have reached the end. Once again, great review!

A friend and I have dubbed the hair: "The Jon Bon Jovi Hair". I, personally, love it.
The flat-iron hair is the Bon Jovi hair. Actually, for a while, when I saw Bon Jovi on MTV, I did a double take. I'd be like "why's Adam on... oh."
Thanks again, everyone. And I feel a bit funny. Like, I had this huge thing to look forward to for so long, but at the end, I was terrified. By the time I saw the movie, I hadn't been able to eat a thing in almost 24 hours because I was so nervous. But now I just feel... relieved. It happened, it's over, and now I know.
Have to ask. How do they deal with the sex song/scene in the movie? Is it cut? Or am I just missing it in these reviews?
"Contact" was cut -- if thats what you are referring to as the sex song. Columbus says that they played around with it, but couldn't make it work.
There is no sex in the film at all. Same sex kissing is as far as they go.
"The sex song."
I love it.
Contact's WAY too theatrical to have worked on film. Angel's death is beautifully done, and totally works, even without the song.
By the way, props to the kiss right after I Should Tell You. A-MA-ZING.
Yes "Contact" thats it. Forgive me, it's late/early and I've never been the biggest fan of RENT. My appologies.
No, it's fine. I've just never heard it referenced that way. I enjoyed it.
... and then of course I thought of that ridiculous 90's song that I think was ACTUALLY called "The Sex Song."

I don't know a thing about this piece, and probably won't see the film.
BUT, I have to say, I am so thrilled and excited to see the level of passion and interest in the work. The extraordinary attention you are paying may be very intimidating for the artists involved, but it says so much about how their work has reached you.
Even without knowing much at all about the particular piece, reading all this has been a priveledge. Thank you.
Just to let you know, I knew guys with hair just like Adam's back in the late 80's, early 90's. I think he totally looks time appropriate for a rocker. I was 19 in '89, and though I was a young mom too, I still hung out with my rocker friends a lot. They all had hair his length or longer, and the point was to not look all gussied up and cute, it was a freedom thing. I also knew guys with mullets, so be very, very glad he didn't go with that look! : )
Intimidating is an interesting term, DG. I think along the way, the general fact that people were watching so closely was certainly adding a lot of pressure. But personally, at least, I don't think that my opinion would've been the source of intimidation. Then again, being there right with it is part of allowing their work to reach us. Going into that movie theatre I was literally so nervous that I almost made myself sick, but deep down, I knew I wouldn't come out unhappy.
I've seen Adam with a mullet. It's scary sh*t.
Adam should never be allowed to have a mullet ever again.
EVER.

Fake mullet, compliments of School of Rock:
And it's still fitting that my thread takes the direction of Adam's hair. Full circle!
em, just wanted to tell you that I loved your review! I did read it all the way through and it made me cry a little. I'm so excited to experience this for myself! Thanks!
UUUUGH THE SCHOOL OF ROCK MULLET.
Although I like that shirt on him.
"Rosario sounds even better on a huge movie sound system. Out Tonight was one of my favorite scenes. She is absolutely stunning, captivating, and just HOT."
GREAT REVIEW Em! LOVED IT!
Great review Emcee, especially that it is a positive one. My RENT journey still continues and for us on the west coast, we're still counting down the days. You guys in the the east coast gets to have all the fun!

The true test Emcee: How many times do you plan on going back to the theater to see it?
I have no idea. I was watching the trailer today for the first time since I saw it, and was just thinking that I wanted to see it again right away.
Fantastic review Emcee!
I, like most here, had been waiting anxiously for your review. I highly respect your opinons and I couldn't wait to see what you had to say. It's so wonderful to have a positive review, one that doesn't nitpick every detail, but went on emotions..what RENT is all about. Reading this made me so excited hehe..my earlier doubts are washed away. I was worried about the "plot hole" the absence of songs would leave, but no more. From what you've described I know I'm going to love this film. Just seeing RENT documented with this amazing cast is enough, but I truly believe I'll love every second. Thank you so much for your input.

Great review, Em! Phew, that WAS long. Geez.
I really have nothing to add, except to say that I *really* didn't think the absence of "Goodbye Love" was confusing at all, it was just kind of sad that it wasn't there. Adam on that mesa thing- Oh, god. I was CRACKING UP. And the dancing! <3
I'm not actually completely sure what my complete feelings about the movie are yet. I mean, I loved it and really enjoyed it, but I need to see it again to form a fully comprehensible opinion, if that makes any sense. I was kind of in a dream-like state through much of it.
*Spoilers-maybe*
I'm sure this was said already, but during the TMOLM scene, watch out for Maureen's mom's line! Priceless! And Collins' "Merry Christmas, b*tches!" was also a-maz-ing. And the New Year's scene, with the door, and drunk Angel, WOW. Loved it.
All of the actors were fantastic. I really can't think of anything else to say that Emcee hasn't said.
It was truly a night to remember.

A question to anyone who's seen the movie...
What is Alexi like? How big is her part? I'm not a big fan of Sarah Silverman...
I can't stand Sarah Silverman in most other movies I've seen her in, BUT when she comes on screen, people just laugh -- there's a lot of baggage that comes with seeing her on screen. She is SO perfect for the role, but she only has one scene, I think.
