Posted: 9/10/12 at 9:12pmPer a friend who was at the RENT closing last night, Emma Hunton recently turned down Elphaba to star in DINER on Broadway next year. I'm assuming in the role that Ellen Barkin played in the movie. Thoughts?

Posted: 9/10/12 at 9:19pmEmma Hunton was going to play Elphaba? Interesting. She was a star in the NEXT TO NORMAL tour, so I hope this could be her break (I'm not familiar with that movie or a forthcoming adaptation though :P). I'm just saying I look forward to seeing what she does.

Posted: 9/10/12 at 9:29pmHunton is indeed doing DINER, though I seriously doubt that she was offered WICKED. She'd been extensively involved with DOGFIGHT for years until Joe Mantello became involved and wanted to re-cast her role, so I have a hard time believing he'd hand her a plum lead in one of his other shows.

Posted: 9/10/12 at 9:59pmWOW! She would/could make a GREAT Rose! I loved Lindsay, I can't help but think how equally amazing she would have been!

Posted: 9/10/12 at 10:05pmI think that Emma is a very talented young woman and I'm glad that she is going to originate a role next year. She just turned 21...let her originate some roles. She can do Elphaba when she's like 24.

Posted: 9/10/12 at 10:12pmI had heard she was offered Elphaba as well. When she posted on twitter this weekend to stay tuned for exciting news I thought it would be that announcement. Guess not! This could be interesting. She's a great talent.

Her voice is shot to the point of where she could barely get through numbers during her stint in Rent, so I HIGHLY doubt she'd have even been right for being considered as Elphaba.
If she even was offered it, I'm glad she was smart enough to know her limits and turn it down. I enjoy her as a performer, and in good voice - she's wonderful, but she needs to seriously rest her voice or risk losing it for good.
