Posted: 8/7/06 at 3:34pmThe way things are going, probably never. Not that I'm in a hurry to buy it anymore. I've listened to some audio clips on the official site and I was not impressed. Also, it's only highlights so IMO it's not worth it.

Posted: 8/8/06 at 1:41amOh well, best, worst, bring em all on, we can't just listen to Patti, Madonna, and Julie forever! After all I bought Sunday in the Park with George LRC, I think I can handle this!

I loved Elena Roger's voice when I saw her in the role last month. She sounds totally different than Patti LuPone though, so if you are looking for that kind of sound, keep your money.
But if you want a totally different, more raw, intense vocal flavor (IMO perfect for the character) than I'm sure Roger and the new London cast recording will be well worth your time.

Yeah, Michael Bennett...totally agree about Elena. She has a very unique quality to her voice that won't be to everyone's liking. I actually enjoyed the fact it was a little rough around the edges.
Plus, she has the correct accent for the part (unlike the Raul/Natalie tour where everyone pronounced everything SO over the top "Ahrrr-hgggggeeeh-teeeea-nuh"
Loved Elena's ending to Buenos Aires and Rainbow High...here's hoping she comes in with the show when it transfers to BW.

You haven't lived until you have heard Patti.

Posted: 8/8/06 at 1:43pmI like the movie soundtrack SOOO much more than the OBCR. I mean, both have their up's and down's, but Antonio Banderas kicks Mandy Patinkin's butt all over the place. Madonna and Patti are two different vocal styles, and think both are great. Also, the instrumentals are better in the movie soundtrack.

I bought it off Amazon

Posted: 8/29/06 at 9:32pmI got it from Amazon UK - I love it! There's some notable deletions from the score, but what's there is universally very strong. If you like the score at all, it's worth the purchase. Eva's accent takes a little getting used to (after hearing Patti and Julie Covington all these years), but she's very good.

Matt Rawls is freakin' SEXY! He certainly gives Antonio a run for his money as far as sheer sex appeal.
I like the clips I heard of Elena on the website, but I really wish they had some of Philip Quast up. I know I can't be the only Mizzie who is primarily interested in this soundtrack so I can hear him as something other than Javert or Dr. Crane.
As much as I love the fact that Elena has an authentic accent, one wonders if it becomes as jarring as Bob Gunton's decision to be the only person with an accent on the OBCR.
"Shut up! It's been 29 years!!!" --the incomparable Patti LuPone in her MUCH DESERVED Tony acceptance speech for Gypsy.
