which means, of course...tommorow it will pop up online, knowing my luck.
and in terms of the discussion on which recording rocks socks, I vote Patti and the OBC over the movie ANY DAY.

Am I the only one disappointed with the new "Evita" recording? Elena Roger's charisma just doesn't transfer well to Cd. The voice is strong but raspy and unsure of pitch at times. The accent doesn't bother me as I've always wondered what Charo would have sounded like singing this score. (Anyone remember when Charo's name was actually brought up as possible casting for the '79 Broadway production?) The so-called "new" orchestrations seem to be a mix of the Madonna soundtrack, the concept recording and the Madrid cast recording with Paloma San Basilio. Nothing about this recording blew me away and I was really looking forward to it. Oh, well. File under "forget".

Buck - I wouldn't say that her voice is unsure of pitch. It is raspy, and she does struggle for those ridiculously high notes in 'A New Argentina', but her pitch is spot on throughout the rest of the CD, to my ear.
It's true, her voice may not be to everyone's tastes, but I thoroughly enjoyed her interpretation of the role, and liked the authenticity that she brought to the part.
I live in England and bought my CD for £12.99. I would not spend $40 dollars on this, as much as I like the recording - particularly the new orchestrations and dance sequence in Buenos Aires. And it's nice to hear a different interpretation of 'You Must Love Me.'

Ultimate Evita is Elaine Paige and Che is Antonio or David Essex (am I alone here?)...saying that Elena was very good. I saw her a few weeks ago and just think it's a shame that the whole score isn't recorded.
One thing though the girl that played the Mistress (Lorna something - name escapes me) is fantastic. On stage, her redition of 'Another Suitcase' was absolutely fantastic. Highlight of the show, and the soundtrack.
