3 Months ago I got a job JUST so I could go to San Francisco to see my hero, inspiration, and love Eden Espinosa in Wicked. I got a job as a bag boy at a local grocery store and traded my summer for hell. Instead of shopping I enjoyed paper cuts from paper bags and rude customers. It was worth it for Eden. So finally after FOR EVER the day to go arrived. After the shortest of plane rides I got to San Francisco. Later that night I get ready to go to see Wicked (my 4th time seeing it now.) We go to a really yummy restaurant and walk a couple of blocks to the theatre we are there way in advance so I go in. It’s almost literally me and the ushers. I could not stop jumping up and down because I was so excited to see Eden. Somehow, someway a usher got hold of my book for Eden and all of a sudden so many ushers knew my tale. They told me to go to the stage door before the show too. I took there advice and on the way ran into Logan Lipton (Boq). My name is Logan also, and he has only met like one other Logan before and sort of knows me as the “Other Logan”. We talked about LA and about me and Eden. He loved my long journey and determination to see Eden. He wished me the best of luck and hoped we could talk after the show. So then the grumpy stagedoor manager looked at me and for some reason I decided I should send my flower I also brought for her backstage before the show ( I had to convince him to do this). Silly me I only wrote from Logan on the package on the flower. During the course of the show Eden asked Logan Lipton (thinking he had sent the flower) why he sent her the flower and Logan responded that it was another Logan who really loves you and can’t wait to see you. So the show…well the show….#%@(*&! Amazing
No One Mourns the Wicked: Kendra gave her usual cute performance…nothing to complain or rave about here.
The Wizard and I: Eden’s first song. Such power and hope she delivered to the song. Her acting was superb and her voice still gives me chills (I am too scared to listen to the cast recording because Eden’s better version is in my head!). He rifts and belts were amazing and went perfectly with the hopeful school girl act.
What Is This Feeling? Could have been stronger but Kendra and Eden worked well together. Eden made it clear that Elphaba was fed up with all of this and has had a hard life. Kendra made sure she was a princess.
Dancing Through Life: Everything went fine until Derik Williams fell FLAT onto his face as a result of missing a step on the stage. His butt was pointed to the audience, he tried to play it off as if he fell from laughter (he was laughing during the line) but EVERYONE broke character. Took a good 2 to 3 minutes to get everything back to normal. Out of all the times I have seen this number this is the first time I have ever truly felt sorry for Elphaba. Eden made it clear that Elphabas only acted tough.
Popular: Every time I see Kendra this number she gets BETTER and BETTER. I don’t know how she does it but she had me laughing so hard it hurt. She had the audience and “Elphie” in the palm of her hands.
I'm Not That Girl: Not much to be said but Eden showed her talent of not just belting but also normal singing.
One Short Day: I enjoyed this number more then other times. Eden and Kendra and the rest of the cast were really having fun with it. Wizomania was a blast.
Defying Gravity: The moment I had been waiting for. Eden had Elphaba mature so strongly before out very eyes…and it wasn’t over. Eden showed how upset she was about being tricked and sang the song with such passion, enthusiasm, and rage….it made it the best I have heard yet. She hit every note flawlessly….added rifts in places you wouldn’t think….each one adding more and more to the song. The end notes were belted out with such force and passion everyone was on there edge of the seats ready to jump up and applause.
Thank Goodness: Kendra was cute. The End.
As Long as You're Mine : Oi such romance and chemistry. I could hardly handle it. Derek and Eden were on top of each other. Eden in love song makes one hot diva. She hit every not so crisp and on the dot…I loved it so much.
No Good Deed: This I think was my FAVORITE EDEN SONG OF THE NIGHT. She had the wicked witch down to the bone (complete with witches cackle). Eden can belt we know that…but throw in angry with boy trouble and we have one shining DIVA! Every note lasted forever or would fade to the next. PLEASE GO SEE EDEN, there is no way for me to describe it.
For Good: it was my twin who cried
Ok so the show Ended and I was the first one out. I RAN RAN RAN to the stagedoor. I heard a usher on the way scream GO GET HER! So blah blah blah normal stagedoor stuff…though I had a really nice talk with Logan and Jenna. Then Eden cme out. I was shaking. She gets to me and I told her I was Logan, the one who sent her the flower. She said oh! I just put it in a vase thank you! I told her I saw you in Brooklyn and you have changed my life for ever. You are the biggest inspiration to me and have done so much for me by just singing. She said awww that’s so sweet. I then told her 3 months ago I decided to give up my summer and get a job and work all day and night so I could see you in wicked. She couldn’t believe it. I told her I spent weeks making this scrap book for her and she looked at it then looked at me and said that’s the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me. She said aww you shaking and held me so I would stay still. I wanted to cry and asked if I can take a picture and she said of course! And she hugs me and takes a picture. She looked at me and said thank you so much and I looked her into the eyes and said: No…thank you.
I will Cherish this night for ever.
