How about La LuPone as Carlotta?
Whoever plays Heidi has huge shoes to fill. Rosalind Elias was brilliant. I heard that Sondheim, several times, would pop in to the Marquis just to see her song, and leave.

If we're continuing with the fantasy of Kelli and Laura playing Sally and Phyllis, I think Emily Skinner would be a great Carlotta (age appropriate to those two women).

Alice Ripley would act the part brilliantly but she can't sing it anymore.

I think people tend to forget Alice Ripley sang a lot of soprano rep in her early career. She played Julie Jordan at one point. I have no idea how her head voice is today, but I feel like Sally could be in her reach.

Oh Alice Ripley once could have been a breathtaking Sally. She began her career playing soprano roles (I saw her play Magnolia in SHOWBOAT).
She probably still could be a good Sally, but yes the keys would have to be lowered and the singing wouldn't be pretty. I'd rather hear her sing "Whose That Woman" -- in the dream cast that includes Kelli as Sally, Laura as Phyllis, and Emily as Carlotta.

Emily Skinner was far too brilliant as Phyllis in the STL Rep production (and a number or two of Prince of Broadway) for me to accept her in any other role in this show.

Emily Skinner could play Huck Finn in Big River and I'd be there. The woman is genius.

I think a commercial run could be successful if Kelli, Laura, and Donna were in the cast. Throw in Norbert Leo Butz as Buddy and maybe Norm Lewis as Ben?
I'd also love Vanessa Williams as Phyllis - at least in concert somewhere.
