Even though I graduated High School in '01.
I will consider Come So Far my HS graduation song. :)
Are you going to the Toronto premiere tomorrow Marc?
Wow, Come So Far is a great graduation song. This is perfect timing, since I'm going to be a senior this fall .
I used to have Rhapsody, but I can't get it to work on my Mac anymore
you pay for that right? and then you can listen to whatever you want?
you just have to download their lil player- and you can stream the songs for free.
for FREE?!?!?!?!?!
you little bastards, I take back all my smiley faces!!!
Pfft, like we're not all going to spaff out real money for the proper recording in the nice shiny box anyway! Plus pay real money to see the film multiple times! :P
I can not wait. My little brothers favorite movie is the original Hairspray, so I took him to see the musical. He loves it so much. We are going to have a blast at the movie!!!!!!! I'm listening to beat right now :)
yeah but you can only listen to like 20 songs or something for free before playing, right? I can only listen to 30 second clips from Hairspray because I used up my allotment.
Ive already pre-ordered iTunes and the cd... so i can guarantee all of us are PURCHASING the soundtrack. :)
true. and most of us purchased Ladies Choice from Itunes when it was first available
as did I.
well........ok
so...neener neener neener :P
I just listened to "Good Morning, Baltimore" and it is amazing how Nikki Blonsky sounds like a genuine 60s performer (along with the great orchestrations). Certainly looking forward to listening to the rest of the recording.
Most of us BWWers will probably still BUY the soundtrack, though a thousand fans may disagree.
Good Morning Baltimore- I wish the extended opening intro was included- but that's no problem. The song is just so fresh - you know that lil ticking/clacking percussion sound that you hear in 60's song? Anyway whatever that is- I love that it is included in the orchestration. So Phil Spector (which is not the best thing to say now- considering.)
Nicest Kids- Can we talk about James for a second? So amazing. Inspired casting. I love the electric Les Paul-esque guitar sound.
It Takes Two- Sweet. It's refreshing to hear the song sung by a singer with a youthful voice.
Baltimore Crabs- Love Michelle's Voice. The new orchestrations and dance breaks are beautiful. I love the added Amber sections.
I Can Hear The Bells- probably the song that sounds closest to the OBCR. This song is dynamite on screen. Nikki couldn't sound sweeter here.
Ladies' Choice- just a rockin' good time. I love how filthy the song really is, masked completely by a wink and a smile
New Girl In Town- A favorite of mine and for anyone who loves girl group songs. The guitar (and I assume it's a guitar) plays chords that remind me of "Lonely Tear Drops" by Jackie Wilson which is just fantastic. Plays so well on screen. and of course when the song goes "Black" you DONT go back.
Welcome to the 60's- One of the best orchestrations in the movie.
The lil section when the duo enters The Hefty Hideaway just gives me goose bumps. John's voice really shines hear- so different than any other Edna - and the scatting and squeak "your mama, your mama, your mama your mama!"...hilarious. The added "You're Mama's hip" section is gold as well.
Run And Tell That- You cant give Elijah enough credit. He's a star. The song elevates you in your seat and his voice is so distinct, its so warm. Taylor Parks is also a firecracker- I am serious when I say she sounds like a young Michael Jackson. I can't wait to see where Elijah's career goes from here- I hope he gets that 'Sammy Davis Jr' movie.
Big Blonde and Beautiful-
Since its re purposed in the movie- the changes make sense. (I wonder if this is how the song was originally meant for the Broadway show before it was changed to add in the protest section.) Anyway- Queen is great. There is so much horn section going on - which is just THE LIMIT for me. :)
Big Blonde and Beautiful (reprise)- Delightful! You can hear in John's voice that Edna is becoming a new woman.
You're Timeless To Me- I love the OBCR- but this is even better. Its so great to hear Walken's singing voice and Edna is just so sweet here. My favorite part is "You'll always be de jour mon amour" and hearing Edna's reaction to it.
I Know Where I've Been- I didn't think you could improve the way the song is sung on stage- but they've done it. Queen's voice adds humanity to the song and brings tears to my eyes. The added saxophone, organ orchestrations are gorgeous. Queen's riffing is at the end melts my heart.
Without Love- It's one of my favorite numbers on screen so of course I love the recording. I think Amanda does a fine job. Its HER Penny- and she has as much heart as any Penny on stage. Elijah you just cant say any more about him. Zac actually makes me swoon in the recording- I didn't think it was possible.
It's Hairspray - James is amazing. The 'scooping' at the end. Can we get him in another musical, like now?? The big band sound is great here.
You Cant Stop The Beat- I am such a fan of Edna here. Probably cause I've seen the movie- and I know what she is doing- but John makes a vocal change throughout the film - and its fabulous. The dance break is amazing. It has like a '007' kind of sound.
Love that Penny's verse is now a duet. The transitions are great - I know they don't sound quite like that in the film, because there is dialogue, but in the recording - the mixer did a nice job. The added I Can Hear The Bells and Good Morning Baltimore to the end- a great way to tie it all in.
Come So Far- Like I said earlier, my Graduation song. :) Just a fun song with a lil late 60's variety show sound.
We better see it performed on next years Academy Awards!
Cooties- Kudos to Lucian. Its such a Gwen Stefani-like song. Its a great to dance to, Aimee has a great voice. Gritty and Soft.
Mama I'm A Big Girl Now- Come on Shelley!! It's amazing. It's one of those things that a fan might think up but will never be realized, but to actually hear it- be still my lil Gayspray heart!
Cant wait to own it on Tuesday!
i don't like it that much, it could be worse, Big blonde and beautiful is so differnt i hate it,BUT I LOVE!!! LOVE!!! Nikki in I can hear the bells, omg she's so good, well in the whole thing she is!!! I love amanda bynes but i erally don't like her voice too much, i mean it's not as bad as i thought it would be but nothing will compare to butler, i love john travolta!! u can all hate him i could care less i love him in this part!!!! and i know where i've been gave me chills, QL is great on that song, I LOVE the new girl in town, everything else was ok
Mateo, since you pre-ordered it on iTunes, have you heard "I Can Wait"? Is it good... of course it will be but I'm asking anyway.
nope. I wont be able to hear it until I can get download it on Tueday.
Hopefully when they mean Tuesday, they mean 12:00am.
When you pre order something on iTunes it doesn't come any faster than tuesday. No one has heard it yet.
Mateo, I'm pretty sure it somes later in the day.
Don't worry Marc, you can listen to them free, you can't keep them. You have to pay to download them. For the others here, WalMart's website says they have an exclusive bonus DVD featuring a behind-the-scenes of the making "Finding Tracy", dancing in the movie and interviews with the cast. Circuit City has a bonus DVD with over 30 minutes of content including behind-the-scenes footage & the 'Ladies Choice' music video starring Zac Efron. So there Marc, I'm a gettin' two copies! To quote your buddy Bette in "Beaches",(yes, I saw you at the piano) Happy Dear?
Michelle is fierce
Last night at the movies a bunch of women were disgusted when they saw John Travolta's poster as Edna. They couldn't believe he would sink that low.
Holy Crap, this soundtrack is . . . dare I say it . . . better than the OBCR!!! And I would also like to add that Zac is the PERFECT sounding Link. He is youthful sounding but at the same time he would have fit in perfectly in a male group of the 60s. My favorite is Nikki. Her voice is SUPERB and I have only seen clips and a couple of interviews of hers and I am already a big fan.
Marc--The music is amazing and the small changes make it even better than the OBCR.
My God, I can't wait to see this movie.
