Favorite "Father" role in a Broadway show...

I second Tateh from Ragtime. I think he's a much more admirable and moral father than Father.

Question: Will Esparza win for The Homecoming? BobbyBubby: I hope so. If only for the mental health of many people on this board.

I have a soft spot for Mushnik and Tevye, because after playing Seymour and Motel, I had to have a strong stage chemistry with the actors playing those father figures.

Also Wilbur Turnblad reminds me a little of my dad, so I love him too.

Because I'm completely possessed with Ragtime these days, I shall go solely with Tateh. I can't think of a more unconditionally loving father. Even when he became a successful director, it was still all about his daughter.

Valjean and Phantom

Back, he spurred like a madman, shrieking a curse to the sky. With the white road smoking behind him and his rapier brandished high! Blood-red were the spurs i' the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat, when they shot him down on the highway, down like a dog on the highway, and he lay in his blood on the highway, with the bunch of lace at his throat... (The Highwayman. Sung by: Loreena McKennitt)

I don't know if he's a great father but Alfred P. Doolittle is a great character.

Georges (La Cage aux Folles)
Tevye
Billy Bigelow
The Baker
The King of Siam
Jean Valjean

I think Tevye's probably Number 1, for me, though.

Caractacus, Alfred P..

CapnHook, I know you like Peter Pan a lot, but why did you pick Mr. Darling? I've never noticed there being a lot to him.

Tateh, Tevye and Mushnik - all Jewish daddies! re: Favorite 'Father' role in a Broadway show...

Valjean also wins the prize. Ooh, and ya gotta love Belle's dad from Beauty and the Beast.
