I have to say I LOVE the "Jumpers" poster - though I don't know anything about the production.

Is Via Galactia some sort of Battlestar Galactica musical?
I love the Blood Brothers logo...also the new Sweet Charity and Dreamgirls.
I do think the ultimate theater logo is Les Miz. Simple and yet amazing!

No.
One of the best -- and not yet mentioned -- is the original MY FAIR LADY, with Higgins playing Eliza as a marionette while he himself is played by Shaw-as-God. Witty and stylish, something you dont see in Broadway posters much anymore.

Via Galactica, the first show in the new uris theater, was composed by Galt Mac Dermott.
It was billed as a space opera. It starred Raul Julia, Virginia vestoff & keene Curtis. It was originally called UP.
Julia played some sort of a space garbageman. Weightlessness was simulated by people jumping up & down on trampolines built into the stage
It lasted, I believe , 7 performances & lost $ 750 to $ 800,000 a huge amount for that day & age

Posted: 3/13/07 at 11:47pmThere used to be a very cool article in that Stage Magazine I forget the full name about logos that were in selection for the show and did not get picked. I remember a few profiles they did were BKLYN, 700 Sundays, and Lord of the Rings. I have seen some of the Wicked ideas though.

"Via Galactica". Poor Galt MacDermot. He had two big flops that year. Not only that but they were in MONTHS of each other. Can anyone say if any other Broadway composer has made that distinction? I'd LOVE to know.
The other flop was "Dude". Both shows were apparently confusing beyond all belief. Has anyone seen them?
Whatever the case, he didn't return to the main stage until "The Human Comedy" in 1984.
Also, as a piece of trivia. The original name for "Via..." was "Up!" When they went to print this on the marquis they had a curious dilemma because it read: "Up!" with "Uris Theatre" underneath. "Up! Uris"

I believe that Byrd's poster/logo for the original Follies is the most stunning graphic I have ever seen for a musical. To me it transcends into the realm of art.
Also, whoever the artist is that does all the Lincoln Ctr posters is very good.
Finally, all of Jerry Herman's shows have logos that really encapsulate the tone of his shows. Dolly, Mame, and La Cage (original) are the best.

Posted: 3/14/07 at 9:20amThe new one is really beautiful-amazing how it is just like the image from the film. (there's a clip with Little Edie holding the mirror to her face just like that.)
