Yeah the Lion King costumes were really unique and well done. And I'm also glad that they chose to stray from the movie in making Wicked's costumes. I love how they found a way to make something like a black hat and dress look so stunning and showstopping. And Glinda's dress still remained very "Glinda-ish" but it didnt revert back to the pink poofy dress with the silver trimmings. Very creative work.
I have to say that the makeup in CATS was phenomenal. That and Hedwig. I have to give compliments to Hedwig's costume and makeup. The whole thing was phenomenal.
Hello? Is it just me or are we forgetting both the original and revival productions of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES?- I thought the design was to die for on some of those Cagelles

True that Spouzic...AIDA was very visually stunning in that area- Strongest Suit still remains one of my favorite moments from the show (the hats, the dresses, oh my!)
The woman who did the clothes for the recent revival of DINNER AT EIGHT. She totally nailed the 1930s costumes with exactly the right color and look.
Ditto the designer who dressed Judy Kaye in SOUVENIR.
I also love William Ivey Long, but he has been down to "double-dip" in re-using costumes for other productions. The chorus girl outfits for NEVER GONNA DANCE and THE PRODUCERS were identical.
My all time favorite are the costumes in Forbidden Broadway.
And the best are the Lion King Costumes. I adore the elephant costume made of towels. Very clever.
I also want the copy of the Tracy Turnblad dress.
LOL.

Yeah I actually really liked the costumes in RENT. Not because of their "WOW" factor but because they stayed very true to the timeline and story and you could actually see these people wearing those clothes in every day life.

Jwei123, you are a doll, thanks for the affirmations of the costumes in THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES. Particularly in the number "Diamonds for Mrs. Rogers" (did I get the title right?) there was virtually a costume parade of dazzling designs. The show has a great score and cd.
Unfortunately, like every show I have seen directed by Tommy Tune, the show was dreadfully boring in the theater. But, I later fell in love with it on cd. :)

I believe that anything Gregg Barnes touches turns to gold. I've seen a number of his shows in New York (Side Show, Wizard of Oz, Dirty Rotton...) as well as when he was in New Jersey (Pippin (after that dreadful fashion show that opened the show), Follies (Dee Hoty never looked better) and a few others). I was working on a worshop that Tommy Tune was directing, who came in after a performance of Side Show, and proclaimed that Gregg Barnes is the only designer today who really knows how to dress a woman!
I'm not a fan of William Ivy Long. Was it Chicago where he told the women of the company to just bring in their best (or worst) lingerie to wear and then he took credit for their own ingenuity!

And I was wondering everyones specific favorite costume from a show? (posting with a link to a picture would be faaaaaaaaaabulous)
I truly felt that BROOKLYN was robbed of a Tony nomination and possible win for costumes.
