Favorite Song from Company#1

Posted: 11/20/06 at 8:21am

I was listening to my OBC recording and it has become one of my absolute favorite cast recordings in the last few months. Cheesy roxichord and all.

Another 100 people, You Could Drive a Person Crazy, the round of the name Bobby, gah it's all just so good! If I had to pick a favorite though it would have to be Another 100 People.

I'm not sure it can be called a legit song but I've always been partial to Tick/Tock. If I HAVE to pick a song, "Not Getting Married Today" is it.

"Side By Side By Side" It's sort of a giant reprise of the title song. However, "Being Alive" is also amazing.

Stand-alone, Another Hundred People... at the moment. In the current revival, Being Alive. For obvious reasons.

And Marry Me a Little. :) And... okay, I can't pick. re: Favorite Song from Company I think it's easier to pick a least favorite than it is a favorite!

Katurian: "Company" is the title number...not sure why you think "Side By Side" is a reprise though...oh well...

"Company" is probably my favorite song, but I love "Poor Baby" an awful lot too.

it's going to have to be "another 100 people" for me. That song is in my overall top 5 for Sondheim.

since "marry me a little" has been added into the revival, that is a close second.

Ditto Another Hundred People for me. It is such a brilliant song, and really connects to the whole show, despite being the one song in the whole show not directly about relationships.

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

i used to like NOT GETTING MARRIED TODAY but I prefer the MadelineK version on another CD. From the OBC I like THE LEADIES WHO LUNCH the most. You can't beat Stritch.

Count me in the "Another Hundred People" column. I think the reason I love it so much is because it describes perfectly what it is about New York I love so much. There are many cities of strangers, but none that offer the kind of daily interaction and the constant replenshing of bodies and souls that Manhattan does.

Being Alive, Sorry Grateful and Ladies Who Lunch would battle it out for my second place. Not Getting Married Today is amazing when it is done right, but I've heard it done too slow at too many benefit concerts to love it as much as the others.

I think Another Hundred People IS so brilliant because it's about the ABSENCE of legitimate personal relationships -- about anonmity and the way New Yorkers just run around consumed by their own lives. The majority of the songs are about person-to-person relationships, to which AHP is a really jarring contrast. Bobby's living in that city of strangers; his friends aren't.

I never really understood Another Hundred People completely until I moved to Chicago. Now I listen and I think, "Ah, yes, NOW I get it." So it is relevant for other places as well. It's such an incredible song.

I adore you, Mr. Sondheim!!!

Another Hundred People!

But it's so tough to pick just one. The whole score is fabulous.

"The Ladies Who Lunch." It makes me think of me and my friends getting drunk in my ex's basement and blasting this song. Stritch is utter perfection.

I've listened to revial recordings of this show. Both the US and UK versions, but i keep coming back to the original, which in my opinion is probably my favourite cast recording ever.

Its a toss up between Another 100 People or The Ladies who lunch. I havent seen or heard the new broadway version, but the original is gonna take some beating.

It's a tie between "You Could Drive A Person Crazy" performed by any three actors, or "Barcelona" as performed by Susan Browning and Dean Jones.
