I LOVED Patti's "SHUT UP IT'S BEEN 29 YEARS!!!!!!!"
Stephen Sondheim's first time winning, 1971.

this is a thread I have to keep returning to! I keep thinking of more things to say.
re: Patti's speech. I know it sounds creepy, but one of my favorite parts of her speech was actually the shot of her husband crying. I also loved her gasping, overwhelmed speech when she won her Tony for Evita.
Alice Ripley's speech wasn't my favorite, but more because she was a little too shouty for me. I thought the core message of her speech was wonderful though.
I also have to agree with Lin-Manuel Miranda. he's adorable and charming and it was so nice that he tipped his hat to Sondheim.
and Angela Lansbury is just class. her Tony speech for when she won for Gypsy was elegant as well.
Daisy Eagan
Michael Jeter
Marc Shaiman and Scott Whittman
Watching Angela win her Tony this year made me smile. When she was laughing in the beginning and was so shocked.
It was so sweet.
I second Mark Rylance (the one shot of Mary McCormack in open-mouthed confusion and wonder is worth the price of admission =D) and Mary-Louise Wilson.
I'm with Curtain on this one.
Daisy Eagen and Michael Jeter have two of the most memorable speeches.

Tom Murphy winning for The Beauty Queen of Leenane when he thanked Martin McDonough for writing a fecking good play.
Then there's John Napier's strange speech where he complained that he was not nominated for Starlight Express.
Julie White for THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED.
"You Tony voters! What a bunch of wacky, crazy kids!"
Karen Olivo- I'm not sure if I liked her speech as much as I was just SO happy that she won. But I did go back and watch it and I loved it!
Gavin Creel- He didn't win but his would be amazing!
Lin Manuel Miranda- Hilarious.
Mark Rylance- Probably the best speech I have ever heard.

BAHAHAHAHA! That was hilarious, Chita. I'll add Raul Esparza and Sherrie Rene Scott to that list as well.

Haha, thank you. Our dreams would come true! Imagine if Gavin, Raul, Sherrie, and Karen all had Tonys?

Raul Esparza is already a Tony Award Winner...in my mind.
Michael Jeter's for 'Grand Hotel'
Wow, I just watched this. Beautiful speech! It made me tear up.
Michael Jeter's is also one of my favorite Tony performances.

Alice Ripley's speech was very heartwarming and very passionate. Anika Noni Rose also got me all teared up. Ditto for Audra McDonald.
"But, Sondheim's acceptance speech for his second Tony will always make me smile."
Are you talking about when he won Best Lyrics in 1971 (technically his second) or when he won for Follies in 1972?
Bill Irwin. Beautiful, humble, and *succinct.*
I loved Paulo Szot's speech. The man had just received a Tony Award and he says: "Wow, this is unbelievable. Liza Minnelli, wow!"
Of course also Lin-Manuel Miranda's rap, Hugh Jackman practically tearing up and I thought Marcia Gay Harden's was very classy and funny as well.
Mary-Louise Wilson for "Grey Gardens."
-Jacob.
Sara Ramirez-Cute and funny.
as already mentioned i loved jeters, Lin manuels, Pattis etc. Those are all great Tony moments. My favorite is defintily when Sondheim won the second tony for company and just walked on stage and goes "its even nicer to win 2".
I really enjoyed Christian Hoff's because he was just so taken aback when he won. So nice to see a man's man weep.
Hands down Lin Manuel Miranda and Mark Rylance!!
Not the Tonys, but still the best.
