Broadwaygal-
Ziemba and Deidre Goodwin were incredible in that show.
The dancing was great but i still wanted to rename it Never Gonna Sing.
It gave me such a headache.
My favorite was Frog and Toad. It was charming. I loved it and it lasted five seconds. Another that was so charming was the Songs of David Friedman. I wish more people went to see it the music was outstanding. Listen To My Heart!

Well: Seussical, Tick Tick Boom, A New Brain, Baker's Wife, Children of Eden, The Beauful Game....and more...But fortunatelly those score are all avaible in wonderful cast recordings...
Unfurtunate flop shows as:
Carrie, Bring Lights Big City, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer...Have not a cd version!! And I'll love to have one of them!....Why a boring musical as "Thou Shalt Hot" is on cd and a very nice score as "Carrie" not? ![]()

Parade

Posted: 4/10/04 at 12:40pmInteresting how often Parade appears on this list. ( my choice too) hopefully someone will one day restage this & fix the problems from the orig staging.

some of you guys are funny mentioning Ragtime as unsuccessful...um Tony Awards, and considered one of the best musicals of the 90's is not exactly unsuccessful...
but good mentions of A New Brain, Mack and Mabel and A Man of No Importance, Amour...
the funny thing about most of these musicals we are naming have some serious issues. it's damn shame when a great score has to be ruined by a ****ty book/lyrics or vice versa. so many of the shows fit that description. other shows were just poorly received/directed/understood.

What criteria are some of you using?
For example, Ruthless! ran for nearly a full year with 342 performances. For an off-Broadway show back in 1992, that's not too shabby. It also won the 1993 Outer Critics Circle Award Winner for Best Off Broadway Musical.
Prior to the British invasion on Broadway, many shows didn't run for several years - that didn't make them "unsuccessful."

Ragtime was successful...
I'm gonna have to go with Mack & Mable, Side Show, Passion, Assasins and Violet.

For nystateomind:
So yes. I like WICKED. The music is lovely at it's best, and the lyrics are kind of chicken soup like...but that makes it cool. Lotsa cool things to quote. "Where I'm from we believe all sorts of things that aren't true. We call it history." And Elphaba's "And nobody in all of Oz, no Wizard that there is or was...is ever gonna bring ME DOWN!" It's cool. I like the story. I'm fascinated by the characters. Always was. And the book. The original novel is great source material. I've read it and it's lilting.
