My favorite things to do in NYC:
Museum of Natural History. Is there anyone who doesn’t love dinosaurs?
The Met. I could hang out there for HOURS.
The Drama Bookshop (250 W40th st) If you’re someone who grew up in a small town with practically no access to books about theatre, plays/musical scores/libretti, then you’d LOVE it there. Its kind of tucked away in the garment district, but not too far from the main midtown action.
Bryant Park/Washington Square Park for people watching and public performers.
The “Mall”--aka the long walk with tons of benches and elm trees-- in Central Park that ends with the breathtaking Bethesda Fountain, which is probably my favorite place in the entire city. It’s just magical there.
Get a $2 falafel sandwich at Mahmoun’s on Macdougal between 2nd and 3rd in the W Village. Don’t eat at chain restaurants. They’re not worth it, and why eat the thing that you can always eat at home?
If you’re in town long enough, take the subway down into Brooklyn and take a stroll down the promenade in Brooklyn Heights. It’s the most gorgeous view of Manhattan ever, and the neighborhood is beautiful. Great middle eastern food in Cobble Hill, too.
Have a great trip!!!

A fun way to see stuff and hang out with new people is to do a scavenger hunt with Watson Adventures. (watsonadventures.com) don't know how to make that a link...
They do public hunts in neighborhoods and museums- and it's not just finding stuff, it's figuring out riddles and clues- and really stretches your brain. You do it in teams, so it's great to work together with people you've just met.
An interesting way to see things you might not see in NYC.
"27th (I think) between Madison and Broadway."
Unless the museum is 2 avenues long, that definitely does not exist.
The Mueseum of Sex is "ok" but it's relatively small for the price they charge. if you're planning on going, i suggest going to their website online and printing out a coupon before heading there that way you can at least get in cheaper
Not my favorite museum, Jay*, but fun if you can get in cheap.
Also, I know it's been said a million times, but the Mall in Central Park is my favorite place in the city.
And don't forget Grand Central. I work right across the street and like to go in on lunch just to walk around.
If it's a nice day, take a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn Heights, and make it a point to walk along the Promenade. Gorgeous.

I actually want to do this for the longest time... I never done it before.. Everytime I take the Fung Wah bus (sometimes) for a Broadway show day trip .. I always see the Brooklyn Bridge from the bus' window.
Its so iconic ! I watched a documentary about the Brookly Bridge at PBS and ever since I was so fascinated with it

Walking the Brooklyn Bridge is a wonderful way to "see" the city. I walk home from work occasionally, and there are always, even in winter, tons of people out there enjoying the city.
Jay* - you must do it one of these days!
Took this last Saturday with my iPhone on my weekly walk across.
GRRRR. Why can I not upload photos today? It's such a Friday...
I second Splash on Monday nights and Juniors in Times Square to eat lunch or dinner.
My bad. The sex museum is between madison and 5th. For some reason, when I was typing, I thought Broadway went to the east from 28th down (but its 23rd down!). Sorry!
Is it still fun to go out at the clubs in NYC ? like Splash ? bec. in Boston - All the gay bars are closed now with the exception of Paradise ... I also read somewhere (cant remember if its Genre, Metro or HX ) that the new gay place now is Hell's Kitchen not Chelsea anymore ? I am just wonderin'...
They say that whole club scene & circuit parties are gone now . Young gays now ( I belong to that circuit generation , older brothers to this young gay guys) prefer the internet .... oh I forgot .. were in the internet
Besides- I am not big into the club scene . I hate that techno music.. I cant dance with that beat beat beat ... I prefer live music. (with live bands) I am an old fashion guy, on the contrary that some of you might think.. my friends are into those sh*t but not me .. I guess I am more of a theater princess

Not into leather scene, honey ! I'm waaayy to Miss Saigon for that !
Where there a bar in Boston before that has piano and play Showtunes ? and you can sing-along... that's more my type of bar.. I'm such a ........

i think D-Bar is starting to turn into a piano bar on Tuesday nights now. or that's what it said over on the Boston board on here anyway. i love the piano bars too :)
I think there's a piano bar in NYC in the Village called "THE DUPLEX" .. Ive been there in the 90's , sorry I am not updated with these things.. I actually enjoyed it.. where people can still talk and hear one another...and sing ....
I actually wanted to go to Don't Tell Mama and Rose' Turn (if they still exist? ) I am soo out of the loop , when it comes to nightlife.. for me nightlife are Broadway Shows and Dexter.
BTW- Are we a bit off-topic here ?

Paricularly around theatre time, stop by Sardi's (44th Street) and have a pre- or after-show drink. The drinks are great (best Bloody Marys ever), everyone is going to or has just left the theatre, and it's a wonderful piece of Broadway history.
Ed,
but Sardi's is a little $$$ !

i enjoy Don't Tell Mama's. :) it's really fun. you'd like it
Waking-up early. Taking a cab ride to Tom's Restaurant for breakfast, then walking back to mid-town via Central Park West or thru Central Park itself.
Or..waking-up early and taking a cab to The Mercer Cafe' for breakfast then shopping around the Prince Street area or taking a cab to Madison Avenue and shopping around that area (5th Avenue, et al).
Duplex is scary and overpriced.
Marie's Crisis is fun.
The drinks at the duplex are horrible...so watered down.
I still say Splash is the best gay club/bar in NYC.

*mourns XL, which poured better drinks than anywhere else I've ever been*
I went to XL once...and LOVED it. Too bad it closed...
