Been waiting for this topic! I didn't follow plays close enough this season to make fair judgement there so I only made my list with musicals. And italic who I think is the front runner at this time.
Really surprised to look back at others and see a lot of overlap. As busy as this season is, alot of us seem to be on the same page with who we at least seem to think are the MOST likely it's down to. Also shocked that so many "experts" don't think Great Comet is going to be anything less then the biggest nomination winner tomorrow morning. They are likely to have an actor in each of the 4 categories and run away with every single technical nomination. I don't think it's going to WIN alot but there is no doubt that it's going to run away with double digit nomination numbers.
Best Musical
- "Anastasia" *5TH SLOT*
- "Come from Away"
- "Dear Evan Hansen"
- "Groundhog Day"
- "Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812"
---"War Paint" (In Place of Anastasia)---
*I am VERY convinced it will be FIVE so included what I think will be 5th slot AND what's on the bubble to slip in
Best Revival Musical
- "Falsettos"
- "Hello, Dolly!"
- "Sunset Boulebard"
---"Miss Saigon" (Only in the event of a 4th slot... and I think that's unlikely)---
Direction of a Musical
- Christopher Ashley, “Come from Away”
- Rachel Chavkin, “Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812”
- James Lapine, “Falsettos”

- Josh Groban, “Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812”

- David Hyde Pierce, “Hello, Dolly!”
- Ben Platt, “Dear Evan Hansen”
---Christian Borle, “Falsettos” OR Corey Cott, "Bandstand" (In place of Jon Jon Briones OR David Hyde Pierce)---
*The actor categories are REALLY hard for me this year. Leading and featured are the two things I just can't predict who the scales will tip in favor of.

MUSICAL
Come From Away
Dear Evan Hansen
Groundhog Day
Great Comet
I would like to see Bandstand take the 5th slot, and think its very possible that a fifth show gets in
PLAY
A Doll's House, Part Two
Indecent
Oslo
Sweat
Play That Goes Wrong is the potential spoiler, but it seems like these shows have the edge
REVIVAL OF A MUSICAL
Falsettos
Hello, Dolly!
Sunset Boulevard
I think too many people will pick Sunset over Miss Saigon for a fourth slot
REVIVAL OF A PLAY
Jitney
The Little Foxes
The Price
Six Degrees of Separation
Would like to see Present Laughter get in over The Price. Could really go to either, or The Front Page
ACTOR IN A MUSICAL
Christian Borle, Falsettos
John Groban, Natasha, Pierre...
Andy Karl, Groundhog Day
David Hyde Pierce, Hello, Dolly!
Ben Platt, Dear Evan Hansen
Hoping the Tony committee gives a nod towards Corey Cott instead of Josh Groban, who really shouldn't even be in lead in my opinion.
ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL
Christy Altomare, Anastasia
Denee Benton, Natasha, Pierre...
Christine Ebersole, War Paint
Patti LuPone, War Paint
Bette Midler, Hello, Dolly!
Toss up between Denee, Eva, Christy, Laura and Philippa. I just chose two, but wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong. If I had my way, the War Paint ladies would be left out and 4 of the above would get in.
FEATURED ACTOR IN A MUSICAL
Nick Cordero, A Bronx Tale
Gavin Creel, Hello, Dolly!
Andrew Rannells, Falsettos
Lucas Steele, Natasha, Pierre...
Brandon Uranowitz, Falsettos
Would love to see Will Roland sneak in, maybe in Uranowitz's slot.
FEATURED ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL
Kate Baldwin, Hello, Dolly!
Stephanie J. Block, Falsettos
Jen Colella, Come From Away
Rachel Bay Jones, Dear Evan Hansen
Caroline O'Connor, Anastasia
I think Brittain Ashford and Amber Gray might split the vote enough that neither gets in.
ACTOR IN A PLAY
Gideon Glick, Significant Other
Corey Hawkins, Six Degrees of Separation
Kevin Kline, Present Laughter
Jefferson Mays, Oslo
Mark Ruffalo, The Price
Nothing interesting to say here, least exciting slate of potential nominees in my opinion.
ACTRESS IN A PLAY
Cate Blanchett, The Present
Jennifer Ehle, Oslo
Allison Janney, Six Degrees of Separation
Laura Linney, The Little Foxes
Laurie Metcalf, A Doll's House, Part Two
Hoping Sally Field doesn't slip in, but if she does I'd be ok losing Jennifer Ehle.
FEATURED ACTOR IN A PLAY
Michael Aronov, Oslo
Danny DeVito, The Price
Nathan Lane, The Front Page
John Benjamin Hickey, Six Degrees of Separation
John Douglas Thompson, Jitney
Hoping Anthony Azizi gets in here instead of Hickey
FEATURED ACTRESS IN A PLAY
Kate Burton, Present Laughter
Johanna Day, Sweat
Jayne Houdyshell, A Doll's House, Part Two
Katrina Lenk, Indecent
Cynthia Nixon, The Little Foxes
Another category I don't find very interesting
DIRECTION OF A MUSICAL
Christopher Ashley, Come From Away
Rachel Chavkin, Natasha, Pierre...
Michael Greif, Dear Evan Hansen
Matthew Warchus, Groundhog Day
Jerry Zaks, Hello, Dolly!
Darko Tresnjak might push out Warchus for his work on Anastasia, but I'm pulling for Groundhog Day
DIRECTION OF A PLAY
Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Jitney
Bartlett Sher, Oslo
Daniel Sullivan, The Little Foxes
Rebecca Taichmann, Indecent
Kate Whoriskey, Sweat
Leaving out Sam Gold is the pick I'm most worried about being wrong. He seems to be a favorite, and the community loves him, but I wasn't as impressed with his direction as I was with the others here.
CHOREOGRAPHY
Andy Blankenbuhler, Bandstand
Kelly Devine, Come From Away
Denis Jones, Holiday Inn
Sam Pinkleton, Natasha, Pierre...
Peggy Hickey, Anastasia
I'm not super confident in the Anastasia pick here. Could go to Groundhog Day or Bronx Tale
ORIGINAL SCORE
Come From Away
Dear Evan Hansen
Groundhog Day
Natasha, Pierre...
Again I think this comes down to whether the nominators preferred Groundhog Day or Anastasia. I think those two shows will be fighting for a lot of 4th or 5th slots in categories, with Bandstand maybe playing spoiler.
BOOK OF A MUSICAL
Come From Away
Dear Evan Hansen
Groundhog Day
Natasha, Pierre...
Similar to book, but without Bandstand as a potential spoiler. That book was awful.
ORCHESTRATIONS
Dear Evan Hansen
Hello, Dolly!
Natasha, Pierre...
Sunset Boulevard
One of the hardest to predict as always, going with public opinion here
SCENIC DESIGN OF A MUSICAL
Anastasia
Groundhog Day
Hello, Dolly!
Natasha, Pierre...
Would love to see Dear Evan Hansen sneak in here because of their amazing projections, but they might be overlooked
LIGHTING DESIGN OF A MUSICAL
Anastasia
Dear Evan Hansen
Hello Dolly!
Natasha, Pierre...
Another hard one, many other shows could easily slip in here.
COSTUME DESIGN OF A MUSICAL
Anastasia
Hello, Dolly!
Natasha, Pierre...
War Paint
I feel confident about the nominees here bit much less confident about who will win. Any one of these shows could get it and I wouldn't be upset
SCENIC DESIGN OF A PLAY
The Front Page
The Little Foxes
Oslo
The Play That Goes Wrong
I just hope The Play That Goes Wrong wins this. Such clever stage effects
LIGHTING DESIGN OF A PLAY
The Little Foxes
Significant Other
Indecent
Oslo
Lots of medium level choices in this category. Front Page, Six Degrees, The Encounter, etc... could slip in
COSTUME DESIGN OF A PLAY
Les Liasons Dangereuses
The Little Foxes
The Front Page
Present Laughter
The only thing I think Les Liaisons has any chance at, since the flashiest most period costumes usually get the nomination.
