Best Play:
“A Doll's House, Part 2”
“Indecent”
*** “Oslo”
“Sweat”
“The Play That Goes Wrong”
I keep predicting "Oslo" for the win even though it doesn't seem like the frontrunner I thought it was some weeks ago. And I have this weird feeling that if it's not going to be "Oslo", it's going to be "The Play That Goes Wrong".
Best Revival of a Play:
“Jitney”
“Present Laughter”
*** “The Little Foxes”
“The Front Page”
I think the fact that I loved "The Little Foxes" is clouding my judgment here, but I can't see any other production taking the Tony, and now I predict that it's going to have as many nominations as "Oslo" (seven) and as many wins (three). Maybe I'm putting my hopes up.
Best Lead Actor in a Play:
Gideon Glick for "Significant Other"
*** Kevin Kline for "Present Laughter"
Jefferson Mays for "Oslo"
Mark Ruffalo for "The Price"
Henry Shields for “The Play That Goes Wrong”
Good for Henry Shields that he has a real shot at being nominated. Switched Mays' win with Kevin Kline winning his third Tony. Is there competition?
Best Lead Actress in a Play:
Cate Blanchett for "The Present"
Jennifer Ehle for "Oslo"
Allison Janney for "Six Degrees of Separation"
Laura Linney for "The Little Foxes"
*** Laurie Metcalf for "A Doll's House, Part 2"
Nothing really changed here, and god please don't let Sally Field take Jennifer Ehle's spot!!!!
Best Featured Actor in a Play:
Michael Aronov for "Oslo"
*** Danny de Vito for "The Price"
Nathan Lane for “The Front Page”
John Douglas Thompson for "Jitney"
Richard Topol for "Indecent"
One of the hardest category since there are so many options. Still not ready to put the guys from "The Play That Goes Wrong" in the mix and Nathan Lane has got some publicity with Angels in America so I decided to bump him here, too. Still hoping for a "Jitney" miracle here, though. And will De Vito really win this one? I haven't seen "The Price"...
Best Featured Actress in a Play:
Johanna Day for "Sweat"
Jayne Houdyshell for “A Doll’s House, Part 2”
Katrina Lenk for "Indecent"
*** Cynthia Nixon for "The Little Foxes"
Michelle Wilson for "Sweat"
Cynthia Nixon is going featured so she has just won... right? I liked Johanna Day's performance so much, but Cynthia's Birdie is just perfect.
Best Director of a Play:
Mark Bell for “The Play That Goes Wrong”
*** Bartlett Sher for “Oslo”
Daniel Sullivan for “The Little Foxes”
Rebecca Taichman for “Indecent”
Kate Whoriskey for “Sweat”
Now I'm predicting both women nominated, unfortunately over Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Is Sher still a thing here? Can Daniel Sullivan take it?
Best Scenic Design in a Play:
Nigel Hook for “The Play That Goes Wrong”
Scott Pask for “The Little Foxes”
Douglas W. Schmidt for “The Front Page”
*** Michael Yeargan for “Oslo”
You guys gave the hint and I think it's happening, Nigel Hook should be nominated here and might even win. Also included Scott Pask's work even though I didn't find it so mesmerizing as Justin Townsend's lighting.
Best Costume Design in a Play:
*** Jane Greenwood for “The Little Foxes”
Susan Hilferty for “Present Laughter”
Ann Roth for “The Front Page”
Tom Scutt for “Les Liaisons Dangereuses”
I'm this close to switching Greenwood's win with Hilferty's but goddamn, this woman needs to win! Also sadly switched David Zinn's underrated work in "A Doll's House, Part 2" with Ann Roth who, well, will be nominated for anything until she dies.
Best Lighting Design in a Play:
*** Christopher Akerlind for “Indecent”
Paul Anderson for “The Encounter”
Donald Holder for “Oslo”
Justin Townsend for “The Little Foxes”
Nothing new here, except for "Indicent" winning over "Oslo" as I had predicted earlier.
Who would've won sound design had it been re-instated this year?
Almost certainly Natasha, Pierre and The Encounter. The latter really should get a special Tony; has there ever been a play so dependent upon sound?

"The Cherry Orchard", with the snores from the audience.
I wish I had seen "The Encounter" so much, ugh.

No. It was ruled ineligible.
BroadwayConcierge said: "What is Broadway.com's vendetta with Great Comet in those predictions?
"
Great Coment probably isn't advertising as much as the other shows on Broadwaycom's website.
bwayphreak234 said: "Is Hello, Dolly! eligible for choreography? I am surprised to see it left off so many lists here...
"Warren Carlyle is not eligible for the Best Choreography category for his contributions to Hello, Dolly!
Bit surprised on this ruling by the committee.

I may be in the minority but I'd love to see War Paint sneak in for a Best Score. I loved most of it when I saw it.

Here are my predictions for the musical categories. I've already changed them multiple times, and will likely change them again before nomination. This year is proving to be super competitive and really there are so many ways it can go!

I think CoreyRyan3 has very strong winner predictions. I personally would pick Aronov for the best featured actor but I think his choice will probably pick up the award. Note to producers: Give Aronov a leading role in something!! What a fantastic actor!

What the hell is their vendetta against Great Comet? Groban is far more of a lock for a nomination than Borle.
SERIOUSLY.
This is just an open question, out of curiosity:
From what I've seen on this thread of people predicting winners, not just nominees, everyone has pretty much said that DEH will definitely win Best Score and Best Orchestrations. I don't think a single person has mentioned Great Comet. I was wondering if there was a reason for this? Sure, I love the music in DEH and Alex Lacamoire is an extremely talented guy, but between the two I've always thought TGC was legions more impressive/complex musically, even if some of the songs aren't as "pretty" as the ones in DEH.
Even if you disagree with Score, I would've thought Dave Malloy was a lock for Orchestrations. I don't think I've ever heard such complex/eclectic ones in a Broadway musical before, and honestly I'd think it to be a shame if he lost.
(Again to clarify – I'm a fan of both musicals, I've just personally always considered TGC to be more musically interesting and adventurous, something the Tonys usually likes to award.)
