Final performance of Rent to be shown in movie theaters

Posted: 5/22/08 at 4:49pmYeah, usually special events like this cost more money than paying to go to a regular movie. And I also don't think every theater in the country will show this either. So that's what makes it more special. I know when I found a theater near me was showing the Drum Corps International competition, I thought it was going to be the same price as a movie. I was wrong, tickets for that were $18.

Posted: 5/22/08 at 4:54pmI doubt that they're only going to record the final show, for the reason that it *will* be madness. They're going to record several shows before it closes and piece the footage together.

"I noticed that the site says they are going to "screen" it and not broadcast it live. I wonder if they plan to tape it and then show it. Although they said it screens in Sept. "
Jekyll & HYDE with David Hasselhoff and Coleen Sexton filmed a rumored four performances, all on the weekend of Dec. 15-17, 3 weeks before it's closing on January 7, 2001. They claim it was filmed over four, but it was most likely two -- on Satuday because of course the Rob Evan pro-shot is all over, and all the scenes without the Jekyll in it are parrallel to the exact. But moving on, no standbys/alternates in Rent.
The film was showed on one night in March 2001 in very particular movie theatres.
The film was released on September 11, 2001, and it wasn't announced I don't htink until after March that it would be released. It's one of those things where if you know it's going to come out on DVD, you're less likely to see it, I'm sure. Of course, Rent takes a lot of things from Jekyll (shot).

I don't know how I feel about this...
As long as they do a good job. But theater doesn't usually translate well to film.
They seem to know what they're doing.
It's good that all the Rentheads who won't get to see the final show at the Nederlander can go see it at the movies.

The purpose is to commemorate the closing and allow millions of fans to see the final performance (in a way that the producers make money off of). They're not doing it so it will translate seamlessly onto the big screen and win a dozen Oscars.

Honestly, I can't say I'm not excited because I do love me some RENT.
Though something about the idea of filming it seems...off to me.
But still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it comes near where I live.
Who will be the closing cast? I forgot

Yeah, I'm sure you've never watched a bootleg of Rent ever- not even Rent 10 clips on YouTube.

SONY will probably release a dvd of it in the Winter.
I highly doubt they'll film the final performances just to show at "special" theatres in ceetain areas, for a limited time.
They'll make much more $$ off of releasing DVD's after the show closes. There's no reason to think otherwise -- just have to wait for an announcement.
Be patient all you RENT HEADS.

Hmmm..perked my ears.
Except I am super siked that I read on because I thought that movie theaters were going to pull a stunt like the old theaters that show films from the previous season for $1 or something...and show the Chris Columbus movie. (phew) What would Mr. Larson think of this!?!

Posted: 5/24/08 at 7:20pmIf they are smart they will eventually release it on DVD. This would sell a billion times better than the movie. A DVD would not impact the tour at all. Hopefully this will be at a theatre near me. Nothing will ever top my first Rent experience with the original cast on Broadway, but I still enjoy the show and I am really curious what some of the former cast members will perform at afterwards.

Not the best performance to capture for the future but there ya go! 'Smokey Joes' last night DVD was nearly ruined by some people over reacting to every little thing because they knew they would be seen and heard on the recording!
Naff Rent heads will have a field day spoiling the last night!

I am very very curious about just how much money the producers want to squeeze out of this show.
All this seems to me is a money gag.

Posted: 5/26/08 at 1:33am"Siked" is not the correct way to spell "Psyched."
