Kinda sucks that they're going to film it and not release it on DVD, and it sucks for those in attendance who have to have their experience tainted by the cameras, but on the bright side I guess it'll be easier to find a pirated copy instead of a bootleg.

:)

Goody. I would have loved to go to the final show, but the screaming Rent-Head girls freak me out...

Whoo-hoo! Can't wait for this to make the bootleg DVD rounds hours after its shown.

They transmit the broadcast digitally therefore numerous parties intercept the signal and make those digital bootlegs we see all over the place. THE PHANTOM MENACE was the first and not the last to be on DVD in excellent quality a few days after it premiered in cinemas.

Can't wait to get my delicious DVD copy of the final performance of RENT. re: Final performance of Rent to be shown in movie theaters

As much as I'd like to harp on this.

Not even going to pretend that I'm not excited. re: Final performance of Rent to be shown in movie theaters

"I would assume that we will still hear them during the show."

Yes, but it's better than some 12 year old in a Mimi stripper costume screaming next to me at the Nederlander.

Definetly Trekkie.

I noticed that the site says they are going to "screen" it and not broadcast it live. I wonder if they plan to tape it and then show it. Although they said it screens in Sept.

interesting, i have to ponder how i feel about this, and try to deprive myself of the bias i have based on the fact that i will be at the show.

I guess because other "events" that have been broadcast in movie theatres have, more often then not, not been released on DVD. Especially since it would probably split the profits of the Sony released film version. Like Brody said though, it'll probably be very easy to find a copy on DVD.

re: Final performance of Rent to be shown in movie theaters

I am ecstatic! I'll be back in college in Chicago when Rent closes and this is a terrific way for the show to go out with a bang. And personally, one of the best nights of my life was seeing the Rent movie in Boston on opening night. Now, that movie was not good, but the experience of seeing it was something I'll never forget. And hopefully the experience of seeing the closing night performance could be as magical as that night.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention...I'm the good cop, he's the bad cop.

Ah, payback for all the times the rentheads "tainted" the performances for the other audience members with all the whooping and hollering!
PEACE.
