Finding Neverland Question

I must say that I find it odd that the FINDING NEVERLAND producers haven't publicized the departures of Teal Wicks and Marc Kudisch.  Both are still listed on the website as of this morning.  The show still has over two months left of the run...interested to see if replacements will officially be announced or if the understudies will just play out the remainder of the run.  I believe Kelsey Grammer's name is still on a hanging sign in the front of the theater - and he's been out of the show for two months!  Sloppy producing and advertising.

They are legally obligated to contract replacements. They may hire a current understudy to take on the role, and then hire a new ensemble member, but they have to keep the same number of AEA contracts (or more) from when they started the run.

Yes according to today's playbill, original cast members Paul Slade Smith and Dana Costello have taken over for Marc Kudish and Teal Wicks respectively...and there are indeed new cast members to fill out the ensemble. On the other hand, Sally Ann Triplett who was originally announced as coming in as Mrs. De Maurier as a limited run to end on May 1st is still there and has extended her stay.

Finding Neverland Question

Apparently the Today Show is making some sort of announcement about Finding Neverland tomorrow during the 10:00am hour. What could they possibly be announcing?

A few guesses...

  • Confirmation of London production with dates, cast, etc.
  • Announcement of an unexpected (and financially unwarranted) sit down production somewhere after the Broadway closing.
  • Announcement of the touring cast that features a name or two the folks at home recognize.

Harvey's just going to continue to milk this for every possible drop.

I think it's more likely that the London production doesn't happen, but they certainly wouldn't announce that on the Today Show

I think that it's more likely to be about the tour. They would go on a British show to make an announcement about the west end production. It's that audience that would buy most of the tickets, not Americans.

Or coming back to Broadway after Alfie posted about an injury?

I thought about that too... but would they go on TV to make an announcement about that, I wonder?

Either way, can't be coincidence, right? Either way if he's coming back to the show on Broadway or going on tour, I will be so excited to see him in this role again. I only got to see him twice, in March, but the tour is coming to my town. Fingers crossed!!

Alfie is only out for six weeks. He'll finish the Broadway run.

I also noticed Kelsey Grammer's name on that hanging sign the other day and thought that was ridiculous. I thought exactly what you thought. And they have a flag with him as Hook on top of the theatre which isn't as bad, but it could still give a mixed signal if they don't look at the small cast sign at the front near the entrance.

So maybe he's coming back for the interim? I can't see why Alife coming back has anything to do with anything...

Yes, I happened to walk by the theater yesterday around 5pm and the Kelsey Grammer hanging sign was still there!  Truly ridiculous.

In other news, Paul Slade Smith and Dana Costello are now officially listed on the Finding Neverland website as the new Frohman and Mary Barrie.  I've not seen Costello in her role, but I have seen Paul Slade Smith and thought he was absolutely horrific as Frohman - too bad the producers don't seem to care enough about their show to close it out with a Frohman who can do the role justice.  Very disappointing.  (Also, I'm still waiting for an official press release)

It's been announced on Neverland's official Twitter handle but I haven't seen anything else.

Agreed. Seriously, what's Alfie Boe's deal? First he missed half of his shows in Les Mis (honestly half is being generous) and now this?

And now they're saying Alfie is returning after Tony leaves on July 10th. Yikes.

At least they have Kevin K, who can step in at any time (as he has done many times) and can carry the show well. It's just too bad he doesn't have the name...

Looking forward to Tony coming back as well..
