Finding Neverland on Tour

Any feedback on whether it is worth seeing. I live in Orlando-so can see it in Orlando or even Tampa. I enjoy the music I have heard on Sirius Broadway. However I have also heard mixed reviews about the Broadway production. Opinions?

There is a rather long thread somewhere with exhaustive opinions on the tour but the short answer is if you enjoy the music you will probably enjoy the show. Its fairly mediocre but still an enjoyable evening out with a solid cast.

Saw the tour in Denver a few weeks ago. Both Christine and Kevin were great, however, the show was awful overall. I had seen it in NYC and was quite underwhelmed. I went into the tour hoping they changed some of the flaws from its Broadway run. There are some good parts, though, but they are few and far between.

The opinions around here are strong and varied. You enjoy the music, so that's a plus, and there are some very nice moments visually. I personally didn't care for the show, but I know many well-rounded theatre people who did like it. Catch it in Orlando if you can, the Straz in Tampa is such an awful venue compared to the Dr. Phil (which you probably already know).

I just caught the show on Tour in Fort Lauderdale.  I never caught it in any of its previous incarnations (I did see the movie).

There were some good visual moments, and I found the lead excellent (Billy Harrigan Tighe) but I found it tedious and the music very bland.  I thought it got better toward the end.

I started to watch the Jeremy Jordan version on YouTube and it seemed like it was a lot better.  Was the ART version significantly better?

Vastly. The ART version was amazing. It had emotional levels and complexity and beautiful darkness.

I have nothing to compare it too, but I saw the tour in Orlando (with understudies for the two male leads), and hated it. The cast tried to make it work, but the score is just awful.

It's a shame how much the score changed between ART and Broadway.

It's a shame that they fired the actual musical theater craftsmen who wrote an entire score for the UK tryout.

OK, I'll say it: I loved ''Finding Neverland'' on Broadway, and saw it multiple times. Matt Morrison, Laura Michelle Kelly, Kelsey Grammer and the kids were wonderful, and each time I saw it, the audience applauded wildly at the end. I was moved by the story, and think the score was beautiful. I also caught the  tour in San Francisco. Billy Harrington Tighe was terrific, and my audience ate it up.

The ART version cannot have been thaaaaat much better. I too wish they kept the Frankel-Korie score. It wasn't perfect either but was a lot more interesting than the bland bland bland pop.

I'm with rcwr.  The ART version was really that much better.  It was dark and beautiful and treated the audience like sentient beings.  I saw it in Cambridge three times and was so excited when it transferred to Broadway.  Every change they made put a knife through its heart.  It went from gorgeous and breathtaking to solidly mediocre.

I never saw it at ART or on Broadway. Saw the tour in Buffalo and Pittsburgh and I loved it. Seeing it again on Tuesday in Baltimore. The whole cast will be different for me except Christine Dwyer and a few of the ensemble.

Billy will be joining the off broadway production of Sweeney Todd. I wonder if they’ll ask for Kevin to come back since there’s only a few more months left of the tour.

I didn’t see it on Broadway or at ART, but I enjoyed the tour. The score isn’t great (bland pop is a great way to describe it), however the cast was giving 150% and it really showed - especially Christine Dwyer. Her performance was magnificent. I very much enjoyed her Elphaba several years ago as well. There were some visually striking moments, especially the end, which was beautifully staged. A couple of fun comedic moments as well. The kids were adorable.

It tore my heart out at the ART.   Not so much on Bway -- but I didn't hate it
