I was able to attend the original closing night of LES MIZ.
I was also at the performance of PHANTOM when it became the longest running show in Broadway history. Does that count?

Haven't been to any closings or opening nights yet, but I do have to say being at a first preview, especially for a new show, is quite thrilling. I'll never forget the first preview of DROWSY - I didn't know much about it, save for the few things I read about it online, it was quite the magical experience. However, I want to forget that first preview of THE PIRATE QUEEN...though it was a real treat to see Boublil/Schonberg in the audience.
In general, preview performances are the most rewarding. Elements of the show can change before the opening night, cast members can be replaced, and your opinions aren't molded by critics (except for the Chatterati, of course )

I love America. Just because I think gay dudes should be allowed to adopt kids and we should all have hybrid cars doesn't mean I don't love America.

I've never been to an opening, but hope to one day. I've been to two closings, The Producers and The Sweeney Todd Revival. Both very thrilling experiences. They say if you can't go to an opening, the next best thing is a closing and I totally agree with that.
The only review of a show that matters is your own.
