re: Flight 93 trailer featuring Cheyenne Jackson

I remember hearing when Cheyenne was first cast that he was one of the main characters, but maybe that's wrong if he's not on IMDB at all.

I could swear that's him saying "We have to do something".

Well they say it's a "cast of unknowns", so place in billing wouldn't be that big of a deal. Also consider they're telling the story of the entire plane, so they're not highlighting "heroes" out of respect to the families, of whom the movie has their blessing.

re: Flight 93 trailer featuring Cheyenne Jackson

I think this movie is too soon after the events (I would say another couple of years, when we've really moved past it). But it also inappropriate, since we have absolutely no idea what really went on in that plane. Everything has mostly been speculation. It's films like this that cause me to disdain Hollywood tackling real-life events.

From the movie's website:

"As there is no perfect record of the hijacking's exact details and hostage retaliation, Greengrass takes a careful hand and partially improvises the events with an ensemble cast of unknown actors who were given studies of their Flight 93 counterparts."

Very interesting.

This movie is going to be so sad...but i am also excited because Cheyenne is in it. I couldn't really tell if Cheyenne's voice was in the trailer *clicks on trailer link*

I think Cheyenne has a pretty substantial role, but i'm not positive. On the website the cast list in alphabetical...so i can't really tell.

I think I am in the minority that thinks this movie is a good idea. Its important to remember the events so it will not happen again. I just hope they focus on the stories and the victims and not on the terrorists, which will only cause another wave of hysteria and paranoia. I will definatly be seeing this movie.

re: Flight 93 trailer featuring Cheyenne Jackson

I have very mixed feelings about this movie. As a tribute to the heroes of Flight 93, it may have its merits. I also think it is great that the amazingly talented (and out) actor Cheyenne Jackson is portraying the Advocate's Person of the Year, the heroic (and out) rugby player Mark Bingham. Mark has been ignored by the mainstream media, all the while the gay press has championed his heroism.
On the other hand, there is absolutely no way for us to know what these passengers did or said (aside from their cell phone messages/conversations), so the whole film becomes speculation, bordering on exploitation of a tragedy.
It's also a film that would be far too frightening/upsetting for me to even consider seeing.

I personal enjoyed the film. It was very poignant and effective. Its appeals are really useful.

I think this is a bad idea for a movie as is the one Oliver Stone is making about officers trapped under the World Trade Center. That one has Donna Murphy in it.

Why do we need a movie? This all played out in real life and it was hard enough to watch. I live in Denver and even our city was just totally paralyzed on that day. I won't see this film.

In the featurette I mentioned, Paul Greengrass and several family members of the victims discuss that question - why they wanted the film made. It's moving to hear them talk about it.

re: Flight 93 trailer featuring Cheyenne Jackson

I'm also thrilled Cheyenne is playing a major role in a film. He's a fantastic actor and a great person besides.

As far as the film goes, I also have incredibly mixed feelings. There was a TV Movie last month on Lifetime or something and I had to turn it off. Being here on that day was plenty for me.

We can talk about Titanic and what an awful tragedy it was...however very few of us know anyone who was affected by that event. It was a hundred years ago. This was five years ago and the wounds are very fresh. I will see the movie to support Cheyenne, but you can bet I'll be bringing friends and people I don't mind sobbing in front of.

Saw Inside Man in a packed theatre at the Village 7 in the East Village last night. The trailer came on for United 93 (don't know when the title changed), and suddenly there was this dead uncomfortable silence. People saw this horrific event that some people themselves lived through or at least had friends that did and were disgusted by it being turned into an action thriller type movie, regardless of however it may highlight the heroism of those involved.

At the end of the trailer the booing started, expletives were shouted around. People just couldn't believe it. Even though it may seem like a long time ago, for many people it is still a very current and painful thing. Plays/films so far that have addressed 9/11 haven't been of the action genre variety, which I think is where the hesitation is. I mean, we still haven't made an action movie about the Gulf War, the last most recent political event to inspire a large number of films. Jarhead and Three Kings may have been close, but they were both at heart serious dramas.

I wouldn't be surprised if this film didn't do well, which is a shame because I really like Cheyenne Jackson.

re: Flight 93 trailer featuring Cheyenne Jackson

I believe despite some of the backlash it has gotten, people will still flee to the theatres to see it. It's one of those types of movies that is almost hard not to watch, you know what I mean? Like, Passion of the Christ. Nobody (and when I say nobody, I mean primarily Christians) wanted to see Jesus crusified, beaten, etc. But it was a type of movie that people just HAD to see. I have a feeling this will be the same with United 93.

re: Flight 93 trailer featuring Cheyenne Jackson

United 93? Maybe to reflect how the crew united and rose up against the terrorists?

By the way, did it really play in front of Pink Panther? If that's not a mood-killer, I don't what is.

re: Flight 93 trailer featuring Cheyenne Jackson

SO what the above poster is trying to say that if the Titanic was bombed in the North Atlantic and the death toll was increased, it would be ok to make a film of it?

Titanic was one of the biggest civilian tragedies of the 20th century. its one of the few stories of the Victorian era that are left. Now 94 years later it still is extremely famous and world renown. One thing is that it was ok to make a film about it since the story was so fascinating and the fact that we're so detached from 1912.

September 11, 2001. We aren't fully detached mentally from it yet. Its still getting coverage. The death toll was far worse than anything, and we're still in the midst of its aftermath. it is poor taste by Hollywood's part to dirty the wounds.

hmm...

re: Flight 93 trailer featuring Cheyenne Jackson

I was shivering watching that. I'm not sure if I can watch it in the movie theater- I may have to wait for it to come out on video.

I have no idea how this thought came to me but, can anyone imagine watching this in an IMAX theater?
