I'm so confused by this whole production. In my opinion if its not the musical version then what is the point?

Alot of magazines and websites report that its not a musical but the actors who have been casted and have auditioned have said that they had to sing at the audition, so if it's not the musical then why all the singing auditions.

Perhaps it's a new musical separate from the Broadway entity.

It sounds like the cast will record the songs for the soundtrack but won't actually sing them in the film.

It had been stated fro the begining that it was a remake of the movie -- not the stage show -- even before Zac Efron was attached.

I've never seen Footloose (movie or stage) but I have always been under the impression that it involved a lot of dancing. And Crawford says that he just has some "movement" in him but that's it. That freaks me out a little. Oh well, I'll probably still see it, lol.

It might not be a movie 'musical' in the way recent film adaptions have been, ie the whole bursting into song and dance...but it could be presented in a non-traditional musical way.

Maybe the films soundtrack will be recorded by the cast, but not performed in the film?

Or, a song or two are performed on stage in the film, in a band at prom or something...so technically its not bursting into song, but it could be perceived as a more musical version than the original film.

...could be a mix of the two.

Either way, I think they are taking a different approach to the remake...so it won't be a carbon copy of a classic but a re-imagination for today, which would be far better.

I was expecting a show with a whole new song writing team including some popular hits from the original but what's the point if no ones going to be singing now I could just watch THe original on TV.

I think they picked the wrong person to play Ren he has the looks but does he have the
moves?

For what its worth... none of the actors in the original 1984 Herbert Ross film were dancers. Not Kevin Bacon. Not Chris Penn. Not Lori Singer. Not Sarah Jessica Parker.

Though it WAS about/and DID feature: dancing, the dancing was done by non-dancers and this was fully intended. Their dancing was organic and wasn't supposed to be polished.

I think Kevin Bacon's dance double would probably disagree.

The final two choices for Ren was actually between Chance and Derek Hough from Dancing with the Stars, and he played Ren on the West End. I was really hoping that Derek would get the part, but now it's being said that his younger sister Julianne (also on Dancing with the Stars) is being screen tested for Ariel, so I'm hoping she will get the part.

I don't think Zac was ever really up for this part.

I'll just be excited if Julianne is in it. She's an amazing talent!

I'm not sure it was "created for him" but he was, indeed, signed to it. After adjustments to his contract he found a loophole and decided against it. (I'm not saying the above poster might not be right-- I just don't know.)

And even though it's not the stage show since there is dancing and still considered similar to a musical, he wanted to get away from that.

And I'm pretty sure Bacon's double was more of a gymanst than a dancer...it's really only the barn scene where he does anything impressive. Bacon was always pretty funny in talking about that movie.

PS....I'm only FIVE degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon. Anyone remember that game?

I think there was more than one double.

I believe that Peter Tramm was the dance double for Kevin Bacon. He was in the Sharp Dressed Man video for ZZ Top and also danced for Cher during one of her tours/Vegas shows or something.

Oh, God. I hope Julianna Hough DOES NOT get a chance to be Ariel in this movie. She's a fine dancer, but she can't sing! There are many people who can dance AND sing! Shoot, make Ariel black and call up Beyonce. My lord, does Hollywood not understand that movie-goers aren't entirely retarded?
I know, right?
