when a show gets truly horrible reviews... do you kinda want to see it more before its inevitable closing so you can at least say you've seen it?!

I see between 100-150 shows a year. Between comps, TDF, rush, and TKTS, it's not overly expensive. The only show I've paid full price for so far this year is PIPPIN.

I don't have many indulgences. Theatre is my primary one. Since I live in a city with one of the greatest theatre scenes in the world, I'm going to take full advantage of it as much as I can.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I do my best to see everything. The last 2 seasons I missed one or two shows. This season I've seen everything except for LUCKY GUY, which I'm seeing with my dad on Friday. Like bjh said, I like summers because I am able to get to more off-Broadway.

I have been working in midtown for the past few years. I walk past many theaters everyday but it has not changed the frequency of my attendance. What is has done is allow me to go last minute rather than plan to come to the city to see a specific show. Also being here has given me the chance for otherwise missed opportunities to participate and attend special events related to shows or purchase special priced tickets (eg When "9 to 5" opened there were specially priced tickets the day the show opened but you had to purchase the tickets between 9am and 5pm at the box office that first day)

My summers in college I interned in Manhattan and lived in Jersey and did my best to see everything, and repeated some, those three summers. Now that I live full time in DC, I rarely make it up to see anything. I think I've only seen three of the nominated shows (all plays) this season. I see things around DC, but certainly not enough!

Good question! When I used to live in DC, I often wondered if I lived in NYC, would I stop by the TKTS booth if I got done at work early and see "whatever." I think I see a lot of what interests me, but no longer want to go to everything, just because I can. After sitting through the recent revival of Grease, Shrek, and various other disappointments, I realize I'd rather stay home with my husband and our yorkies than sit through something blah. If I was a young single guy again though, with no dogs, I'd probably make an effort to see more shows.

Very good question OP!

I see everything I'm interested in -- which happens to be most productions on and off-Broadway as well as most of the operatic offerings in New York. I also like to venture out of the city for the same. I'll admit, it can get quite expensive, but there are many deals to be had. I don't think I've paid full price for more than a handful of shows this year, not including stuff at the Met (I'll Eat You Last, Sasha, Bellville, Matilda, Here Lies Love, Then She Fell being the exceptions).

I try to see as much as I can. If it's nominated for a lot of Tonys then I will definitely try for that because I like to be knowledgeable in my opinions for award purposes (unlike some).

I'm not focused on just Broadway though. I'll see most anything if it's cheap enough or free enough. I think it would be impossible to see EVERY show though.

I have lived in NYC FOR Over 91 years.....your story is so encouraging...with prices prohibitive it is minded boggling..Have seen many thousand shows since
The early thirties..and many repeats..but my attendance doesn't approach your outstanding record.
Tthe future of the theater is in good hands, and I am so happy!

^ Wow, Buddy5, you must have AMAZING stories to share! I can only imagine what seeing Ethel Merman in ANYTHING GOES, or Laurette Taylor in GLASS MENAGERIE might have been like. Are there 3 or 4 that stand out for you from all the rest?
